Try finding another institution in America that let the 2 time conference coach of the year, the national semi finalist coach of the year and the coach that is second to none in conference wins in his four year tenure walk out the door because the athletic department didn't value him or respect the job he did.
Just a couple FACTS for you. (1) Tim Albin was an employee of Ohio University. (2) Tim Albin CHOSE to leave his employment at Ohio University for another job. He consciously decided to "walk out the door".
This concludes the factual part of this reply.
Let's revisit your argument he should have been extended early in the season. When do you say that should have occurred? Pre-season? When we lost to a 2-4 Miami team? Heck, at that point we were an awesome 4-3 team. Nothing to that point in the season warranted ANY re-negotiating of his contract.
Mid 70's- what do you have against the first coach to win a conference title in 55 plus seasons? What do you have against the two time MAC coach of the year? Are you not appreciative seeing Ohio as the top conference team record wise in conference games the last four seasons? Didn't you appreciate winning ten games back to back for the first time in Bobcat history? This football program is one of five schools to win 10 games or more the last three years. Coach Albin is responsible for those achievements. Most schools would want to keep a national semi finalist coach of the year around town. The Bobcats lost a valuable trainer to a power four school in the summer and the administration didn't replace that trainer. Ohio's administration failed to value a coach who was the most successful coach in the league the last
four seasons in the league play. He wasn't asking for a million dollars. Do you think if you had just accomplished something that had never been done at your place of employment and was not valued, would you stay around? He certainly deserved to be paid higher than the 6th/7th paid league coach if you include the UMASS coach. Many of you would be protesting on Court Street if the hoops coach had the record Albin did and wasn't getting compensated accordingly. Ohio's AD had all summer and the entire football season to get a deal done. She banked on Ohio winning 5-6 games in 2024 with all the portal losses. She lost that gamble. She failed to get a deal done when she was aware of the Rice offer of twice of what Coach Albin made at Ohio. She dropped the ball. She had plenty of time to get a deal done after the Rice offer was made and she kept putting it off. She was informed other schools were interested, but she didn't care. She refused to show any sense of urgency and it came back to bite her. Ohio's administration was well aware of the time she needed to get a contract deal to Coach Albin before the Ball St game and the title game in Detroit and they didn't do it. She was playing with fire and it burnt her. The administration including the president showed him zero respect. However, it took only a few days to get a contract deal for the new coach. The assistants are getting huge raises because of Coach Albin's buyout. I'm happy for them, but Coach Albin had been advocating to get his staff rewarded with higher pay for a few years. This AD didn't realize that the best hire she made in her short tenure in Athens was the head football coach, that Coach Solich recommended when he retired four years ago. Coach Solich knew what he was doing when he highly suggested that Coach Albin replace him. This administration wanted to rid themselves of what Coach Solich/Albin accomplished the last 20 seasons. This AD wanted "her own hire". She failed to realize her best hire was the guy she didn't value and disrespected. Enjoy these three consecutive ten win seasons. Get back to me in 2028, if Ohio accomplishes this feat again. Anyone willing to wager if the current AD will be around for half the length of Coach Smith's contract?
