My prediction, from another thread is Ohio 45, CMU 28. Based on current odds (over/under at 54, spread at -12), Vegas predicts Ohio 33, CMU 21.

This one has me worried because of our very poor history against the Chips; however, channeling my inner The Optimist, I'll say:

Have we become a high scoring team that wins by outscoring the opposition as we did with Kansas and UMass or are we going to see the D in Eastern Michigan form on Saturday. No doubt the staff is disturbed about giving up 50 to UMass.

I'm more inclined to think that our d against EMU was more because their offense just sucks. They have been a huge letdown offensively.

I have to believe our DB's communicate with each other and play better this week. I think our D line is doing a good job but we need to continue to use blitzes to help them with pressuring the QB. Another 100 yard game from AJ, and Rourke's ability to channel Aaron Rogers and extend plays will get us to 5-1.

CMU 27

(It'll be 37-20 with 2 minutes to go, and we'll give up a late TD)

I don't think CMU presents the personnel match-up problems that UMass threw at us. They spread the ball around, but I don't see the big athletic WR or TE that we struggle to cover. Their RB is the 2nd leading receiver for the team, so we'll have to watch for dump offs and screens. But our base D should be able to handle this.

Last season, Ohio loses on late TD catch at CMU. But:
- No Rourke
- No Ouellette
- Ohio loses turnover battle 4-1
- Ohio drives to CMU 7 with a minute left before a sack and interception ends Ohio's hopes.

Ohio can run the ball and CMU can't stop it. Shane Morris is not Cooper Rush (whatever happened to him?). He will throw us the ball (8 INTs vs 9 TDs so far) so we'll need to catch it. The Ohio defense will still give a up a lot through the air. 38-24 Ohio.

As a former player, I would say this was one of the hardest games to play in the conference. They always kept a good Qb, a good WR, and a good DE. It's almost like they were the MAC East version of us and we were the MAC West version of them. Both have Balanced running and passing capabilities. This game really is based on momentum and who makes less mistakes because we are alike. History does not favor us but hopefully this new Ohio squad can change that. If I'm not mistaken we have a really bad record against them. We really need to control the clock and prevent their QB from throwing in that area behind Poling. We do that, we win.

Closer than the experts think!! Historically OU struggles against this program. CMU has struggled this year, and I think Ohio finally gets another W on CMU. I think both teams score plenty of points--ultimately a late INT seals the game for the Cats

Am I the only BAer who is finding it fascinating to see some BAers predicting Ohio scores of 40 or more? Has that EVER happened before?

If Ohio does put up 40 or more against CMU and wins, we could be looking at one very remarkable season.

They certainly have had Ohio's number ...

Wasn't too long ago a CMU team rolled into Peden Stadium ... they were NOT very good (2-4) ... Ohio was 4-1 .....

We all remembered what happened that October afternoon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GoBLtKbTAM

Devin Bass, beat again, for the game-winning TD on a quick slant

Really bad loss for a veteran team that had super high expectations that year.

Let's see if the Fightin' Franks have matured as a program and they find a way to win a game "they're supposed to win"

I too agree that Ohio scoring 40+ vs. this team would be out of the ordinary for sure ...

I'll go Ohio 29-18

They don't cover ... but they get a homecoming win.

(Ohio has been subpar on Homecoming last five years with the only "impressive" win coming over Miami 34-3. Other than that they have losses to BG and CMU ... and not-so-impressive wins over BG and a 1-11 Akron team)

I predicted before the season that Ohio would average about 31 points a game. In order to do that they are going to need some 40+ point games along the way. At this point I'm thinking 31 was low. The offense has been better than I expected, and the defense worse.

This CMU game scares me. We haven't really generated a lot of pass rush with the front four. Quick throws and deep shots could give up fits. I'm hoping we possess the football and play keep away.

Agreed. Mostly I think it is a reaction to putting up 58 on UMass last weekend.

I think OHIO pulls off a strong win on a Saturday homecoming in Athens!

It looks from the scores of these two teams so far this year that there should be a lot of points. Expect Ohio to run the ball a lot with really good success. We will also have really high efficiency when we pass and probably some good results on some plays where Rourke scrambles. We will give up a lot of yards passing, do a pretty good job with their running game, and get a few sacks.

Cooper Rush is now a QB in this league called the NFL. Made the Cowboys 53.

This CMU team has been totally decimated by injuries at WR and TE. 4 of their 5 top receivers are out. CMU is running a totally new offense and has been a mess on offense every game outside of win at Kansas. The new offense makes the loss of their top receivers even worse, as their backups have played very poorly.

Central has really struggled to run the ball also as their OLine cannot open holes for the running game.

WR out = Corey Willis, All MAC 2016, Brandon Childress (tore acl celebrating a teammate's TD vs Kansas).

TE out - Pre-season All MAC Tyler Conklin, and Logan Hessbrook #2

Michigan xfer QB Shane Morris has been shaky every game except for when he torched Kansas. He has a gun but poor accuracy and touch. Morris runs a little but is very slow.

Best offensive players are WR - SR Mark Chapman and RB Johnathan Ward. Ward is their best player. A bit undersized but very dangerous in space. CMU's only hope on offense is QB Morris finding accuracy and receivers that can catch. Drops have been numerous. CMU 6'7" backup QB Poljan has been playing TE and WR recently..looked very good catching passes vs BC last week. Expect to see more of him at receiver Saturday.

CMU has an excellent corner in Amari Coleman #7 and a great safety #14 Josh Cox. But CMU really gambles alot with 1 on 1 coverage by their corners. Lack of a pass rush hurts CMU also.

If Ohio can run the ball consistently CMU is done. CMU has talent but lacks discipline. They commit penalties often and often at the worst times. They actually were close to taking Miami to the wire but lost an interception but to a roughing the QB call (stupid late hit) and had a 109 yard missed FG TD return nullified on a leverage (jumped on opponent's back) penalty call as the first half expired.

CMU is dangerous when they play smart...they just haven't played smart CONSISTENTLY all year.

Solich is 1-7 against CMU for a reason though. Ohio lifetime 5-24 vs CMU too.

Prediction Ohio 28 CMU 27...or this game could go to OT. CMU is very due for a good game.
