This is a big game for us as well. An Akron loss puts us ahead by one game going into the Toledo game. I think Miami pulls the upset here 27 - 20. ESPN has the Hawks as a 63% favorite. I didn't think it would be that big considering Miami's showing last week plus their losing record. ESPN thinks Akron's no show in the running game will eventually be their demise. Any thoughts?

Thinking that Akron should be more motivated for this game than Miami. Miami sideline looked pretty chaotic near the end of our game last week.
Which QB is starting for Miami? What is motivating Miami for tonight?
I think Akron should win by 7 or so.

I think it was spelled out in an earlier thread that really, things come down to Akron @ OHIO. Even if Akron loses tonight and OHIO beats Toledo, Akron would still control their own path. If they beat OHIO and then beat Kent (the last which should be rather simple), they would be the East representative in the MACC. So while I would love to see Akron lose tonight, it almost all comes down to our meeting with them.

Anyone see the refs reverse a Miami first down and spot the ball at the 10 1/2 yard line in the last minute of the 1st half?

Looked like a first down to me. Weird call.

They were right the second time. Ball is spotted where the ball is when the slide begins. If he had gone head first he would have had the first down without question.

Did anyone catch the stat that Akron gives up a TD in the Redzone 73.5% of the time one of the worst percentages in the country. If there was any doubt Akron could take us that erases all doubt.

Ah! That makes sense now, I didn't realize the ball is spotted when the QB starts the sliding motion.

Thanks for the clarification.

Akron starting QB Thomas Woodson suspended for the game due to violation of team rules. Redshirt freshman Kato Nelson gets the start instead.

No way in hell does Ohio lose to this crappy Akron team next week. They look just like the rest of the East. Pathetic.

Don't like to be overconfident. Akron is due to a good game against us. Got to concentrate on each game at a time. Tomorrow, it's Toledo.

Starting to think that Fiami isn't capable of NOT sucking for another 9.5 minutes.

With a Miami win, Miami's slim chances of winning the East remain alive. They need to win their last two, have Ohio lose 3 in a row, and have Akron beat Ohio then lose to Kent. That's about .1% chance.

With Buffalo's win, they remain potentially bowl eligible. They need to beat Ball State, and then Ohio.

With Akron losing, they can no longer sneak in the back door. Their only path to win the East requires them to beat Ohio, plus either beat Kent, or have Ohio lose to both Toledo and Buffalo.

Ohio can clinch with a win over Akron.

Buffalo game officially doesn't matter anymore. Ohio defeats Akron and is the MAC East Champion.

Sounds like Woodson's suspension might extend past tonight's game. Nothing like screwing up when your team needs you most. Brilliant. That's just Akron being Akron.

If we can't beat Akron, we don't deserve the East title.

Eh, their cornerback Brown was pretty good. Made the Miami WR a nonfactor. I do think Ragland was rusty. Interesting to consider how Bahl would have done last night. I'm sure he's wondering the same thing.

Agreed, we should win convincingly. If they couldn't stop Fiami's running game, then they won't be able to stop ours.

For Ohio to win he east with that scenario, you'd also need to have Akron lose to Kent.

So. The Buffalo game only unofficially doesn’t matter?

The Buffalo game can only make a difference in who wins the East if all of the following happen:
1. Ohio beats Toledo
2. Ohio loses to Akron
3. Akron loses to Kent.

Per TeamRankings, there is a 1.2% chance that the Buffalo game might make a difference in the East Championship.

Obviously that the Buffalo game will matter for other reasons, such as getting to a better bowl, for Ohio, and getting to a bowl at all, for Buffalo.

Right... so officially it may still matter.
