His Columbus Mifflin team returns to the playoffs for the first time in 19 years this weekend, hosting Ashland in a D-II first round game. Anthony was our QB back in the early '90s...

Been following him since his Brookhaven coaching days. Good coach, puts lots into his community and kids.

On another note, we need to get him nominated for the OHIO Hall of Fame.

First NCAA QB at the Division I level to throw for 5,000 and rush for 1,500 in a career.

His son is Mifflin's star receiver, I believe a sophomore.

Hmmmmmmm. So I looked him up in the media guide. Here's where he stands all-time in various categories:

#3 Passing yards
#3 Completions
#4 yards per game
#2 total yards
#9 total Tds

Was a 4 year starter.... Unfortunately for him it was an era where the Bobcats struggled mightily for wins....

I believe he played in the late 1980s, correct? He was saddled with the worst coaching staff in the history of Ohio football. Cleve Bryant was very critical of Thornton's high interception ratio and once told a reporter (and, ultimately, opposing coaches) that if AT threw an INT, he wouldn't be allowed to attempt a pass the rest of the game.

This is why I have only a dim memory of Mr. Thornton. I've tried so hard, and have been so successful, in repressing memories of OHIO football at that time. Perhaps I need memory restoration therapy, so I can remember a few of the good things that occurred at that time.
