Anyone else watching? #3, a WR named Johnson looks like a man among boys out there. Should be interesting to see how the Cats gameplan around keeping him in check, considering how they struggled early on against Miami’s WR’s.

Sidenote: Currently at Riverside hospital sporting my OU hoodie and have gotten quite a few “Go Bobcats!” remarks. I had an older lady who served me a warm tea earlier tell me about how she lived in a dorm I’d probably never heard of before, which was Voigt Hall (still exists) and when I told her it’s still there, as an all-girls dorm she lit up with excitement and practically planned her next trip to Athens. Gotta love running into fellow Bobcats outside of Athens.

So they identify more with OSU than Ohio.

Like I told my son...I got my Ohio shirt in Athens as an Ohio alum...you got your OSU shirt at Walmart.

My uncle fits that category. Went to OU on the GI Bill. Still refers to East Green as Pig Island. Talks about the constant flood problems they had. To be fair, he transferred out of OU at some later point and completed his degree at what is now Case Western. I don't think he's been back to OU's campus in at least 30--maybe 50-- years.

College definitely means more to some than others and/or some stay more closely connected. I own a few dozen OU shirts, hats, jackets, have OU emblems on my car, fly a flag on my house etc. Wear an OU jersey often when doing cycling tours, have a mini helmet, mini basketball and pennant hanging in my office.

But I have a lot of friends I went to Ohio with who if they have OU clothing it would have been a shirt that they purchased when a student 15-20 years ago and maybe wear it to do housework in. They enjoyed their time in Athens and it will always mean something to them, but it was likely more of a means to an end. But I think they have half of the OSU shirts Homage sells-likely because they had been cheering for OSU for years before they even knew Athens was a place.

I honestly only go out of my way to keep up with football and basketball. I'm not very well versed on what is going on academically unless I see in on social media or the alumni magazine. I'd like to be more generous financially but right now I am more concerned about making sure there is plenty of resources to send two (hopefully) future Bobcats to Athens in about 15 years. I also have not been on campus in about 4 years as life is just not as conducive to it. Once my boys are a little older and potty trained, we will make trips to Athens a regularity.

But, all that being said, anyone who knows me, or sees my driving down the street, should easily know where I went and who my team is!

Funny thing is, Homage is owned by an OU alum and has great OU gear. They should buy some of that stuff! Also, I would really like to see Homage open up a store on Court Street. And since Big Mama's has become a chain I'd like to see them open up a shop in downtown Cincinnati haha.

I gotta tell you the same thing I tell everyone I know that's an alumnus with kids: come to Athens during fall football season. The tailgating environment is, in my opinion, great for kids. My buddy brought his 3 and 5 year olds for Homecoming - the whole deal - parade, tailgating with hot dogs, game and halftime band show, and they loved it. Now, they had to leave early 3Q because the kids were done, but they obviously enjoyed the day.

I've also brought my buddy and his kids for basketball - and they're not even Bobcats - and his kids asked when they could come next. Athens makes an impression on kids, and despite the memories we have as students, going to bars and parties, etc., Athens is a great place to bring the kids for the day. And other than money spent on fancy Jackie O's beers, Athens is an inexpensive place to spend the day.

IMO attatchment to sports, Bobcat radicalization happens first normally around basketball. We've always had a strong, interesting to follow mid major team. Then as radicalization proceeds they discover football and the realization that football is key to a universities athletic posture. They finally part ways with basketball as the time commitment of too many games and small roster of 13-15 players pales in comparison to the complexity and importance of football. Sigmund Freud once wrote about this I would imagine.
