Compared to our MAC brethren, we showed really well on national TV with the attendance last night. I was surprised how many people there were on both sides. And the students were actually making some noise, seemingly for the first time all year.

Reported attendance reflects tickets sold, not people actually present.
Good point, but for this game that number seems pretty close to being accurate. It looked like 90% of the tower side and student side were filled up, with the corners being pretty empty. I would guess that would give us an actual attendance of around 15,000, at least for the first half. Which is pretty good for a late cold weeknight game. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowd we get next week. Toledo is the best late season weeknight opponent we have had in peden for awhile.Add that to the fact that we are playing great football with an very explsive offense, it should be a good draw. On the flip side it will likely be pretty cold again and you don’t have the rivalry factor that you had for this Miami game.

Great game. I rushed home from Athens and cued up dvr to watch the play McMullen berated the refs for 2 unsportsmanlike penalties and the ejection. ESPN2 missed the whole thing. It was unlike anything I’ve seen in college sports and so hilarious. He just kept jawing and the refs are digging in their pockets to find more flags to throw at him. Never seen 40 yards in penalties on one play at college level. Just sad Home viewers didn’t get to see it unfold.
They missed it live, but they did replay some of it a few minutes later
The replay I saw only showed the very end of the tirade. Oh well.
Agree they didn't show enough. Left the viewer unsure what exactly happened.
Miami fans would be glad it didn’t air. As Arkley tweeted, he went nuclear. He wasn’t involved with the play. His teammate was called for interference, but our receiver just fell down. So it was a bad call or interference was earlier in the play and both I and the ESPN broadcast missed it.

When interference flag was thrown, McMullen was up near original line of scrimmage. He charged about 10 yards over to ref and just started ripping him a new one. I saw ref digging in his back pocket, but was expecting him to throw his hat as most refs do when they already have thrown their flag. Ref moves away from McMullen, finds another flag in his back pocket and tosses it. McMullen goes after ref just ballistic and other refs throw their flags before the Miami coach can give him the hook. The only part ESPN showed was coach pulling McMullen off field.

If that was OU player, I would have been embarrassed and livid. Moved OU from own 36 to Miami 24 in close 7 point game.

In one of the stories in today's Post, AJ said he was on the field throwing his towel as if it were a flag to try to egg McMullen on. On the brief video ESPN showed, you could see a towel flying up in the air in the background. But they truly missed the incident as you could hear in the announcers' comments that something crazy was going on.

Has anyone else ever seen one player get two unsportsmanlike penalties for the same tirade? I certainly can't remember ever seeing this before. But, it was Miami, and they had the talent to pull that off.

The interference was earlier in the play... mostly incidental contact but the Miami defender tripped up the Ohio receiver, which really made any determination about the catchability of the ball moot.

I am hoping to find a video.

Those still in the stadium were having fun with that situation.

If Kent had 7k ... Peden had 80k

Kent looked like a JV soccer crowd

Peden probably had 12k

Corners were totally empty...tower side & student side probably 70%.

But yes, was much better than expected

Last time we faced an opponent like Toledo this late at home was probably Northern in 2014. Don't remember the exact temperature but it had to be as low as 15. I don't remember the attendance either.

A thank you to Ted Thompson for the archived newspaper clippings which I enjoyed seeing. Only way I ever would have seen them!
