It looks like they may have burned their red-shirts this week. If this is true, I hope they get a lot of playing time to justify it. I wish we had Shallman for another year.

Did Coleman play because of ANOTHER targeting call?

That's OK since he's a beast and I'm all for D Line rotation.

Brooks is talented so now we add decent players to. 2 of OUr weakest positions.

How about some new blood at WR?

Brooks definitely played, and played quite a bit. I also saw Hudson at the other corner, and Kittrell was playing at guard. I have no idea if Coleman played. He is on the participation report, but those are notoriously inaccurate. For example, they have showed KJ Minter playing a couple different games, but he hasn't been in yet. If Coleman did play, I'd guess it would have been at DT, not DE, and so I don't think the targeting call on Conrad would have been a factor.

Our roster has Coleman wearing #16. Soph WR Markell Davis is also listed as wearing #16. Rourke threw a dropped pass to a #16 in the second half - I wasn't sure at the time who that was.

Brooks obviously played but Coleman did not. The game stats show Coleman assisted with DL Knock on a tackle on Ohio's last kickoff. I reviewed the webcast and it was #12 Hampton not Coleman. When they were selecting double numbers on the software, they probably fat-fingered by one.

So we're up to 5 true freshmen playing so far. Seems more than usual, but may not be. Any ideas from others? We've also seen players play as freshmen and then redshirt their second year, so you never quite know for sure who is going to take a non-injury redshirt year just based on their first year.

I thought for sure we'd see a true freshman wide receiver or two...especially since we seem to lack some speed at that position.

Having 2 offensive linemen playing a bunch bodes well for the future. We could also have had 2 DLs play as well.

I would like to see Cox and Cherry get a chance at WR.

Frank himself said that it was unusual to have so many true freshman playing. He said it was because these guys came out of high school with an unusual high level of strength, fitness and athletic skills, as well as the ability to grasp our system quickly. He seemed particularly pleased with the OL guys.

I think 2-3 is about the norm. I am pretty sure that the peak under Solich was in 2005. It seems like 8-11 of them played in 2005.

If he's out for the season, it would probably turn this year back into a redshirt year for him, in which case we're back down to 4 burned redshirts.

Seems like he's played in too many games for that to happen. Didn't he play the first half against CMU, which was game 6?

Yes, I looked at his stats, and he played in 6 games. He can't have played in more than 3 games, so he's well past that. Good call, DFC.

I didn't get the impression that Ross' injury was something that would threaten his loss for the rest of the season. Perhaps, I interpreted the preliminary information, as vague as it was, incorrectly.
