OK guys and gals, since I was a doofus and predicted OHIO losing to Akron in the preseason prediction thread (I predicted we'd beat CMU, too), I'm going to make amends and change my prediction as game time actually approaches. I'm the kind of guy in basketball that roots agains my own bracket predictions if I become enamored with an underdog.

Oh yea, I didn't know how good Rourke would be and how quickly he would develop when I made my earlier predictions. I also underestimated the OL.

OK, enough with the excuses . . .

Akron 14

Ohio 41, Akron 14

I expect that Akron will have a sound defense for the option, and Rourke will have less that 50 yards rushing, but will throw for 300 yards and 4 TDs as he kills Akron with the play action pass.

Ohio comes into the game with a laser-like focus and relatively healthy for once:

OHIO - 31
Akron - 14

Attendance: 3,467 (2,000 of which are Bobcat fans)

I think the Zips do keep it close most of the way. Ohio separates with about 5 minutes to go and holds on for an 11 point win and a MAC East title.

I don't like to predict scores because they're invariably wrong. So here are some thoughts.

We've had a bullseye on our backs since last Wednesday night, so I think Akron will be pumped for this. Doesn't mean they'll win but they should keep it fairly close. Depends on who's at QB for them. If it's Woodson, they may keep it within a TD; if not, well, we haven't scored fewer than 45 pts against an East team this season and they managed only 14 vs Fiami without him. I think Bowden is keeping mum about his status to keep us guessing about who to prep for.

On the other hand, even with Woodson Akron scored only 31 points vs BSU. That's the fewest pts allowed by BSU in a MAC game this season. The second fewest is WMU -- 55. And they haven't scored more than 21 in their last four games.

The fewest pts we've scored in regulation this year is 13, but we managed to win that one in OT. We're a much better team since then.

We haven't had a defensive score since Ellis's 2nd pick six. It's about time for one. Maybe Moore or Poling.

I'd like to see the Bobcats blow out Akron. I'll take win.

Go Cats!!!!!!!!!!!
