I would agree that had the game been the first few weeks, Ball State was better than Kent. The last 4-5 weeks, though, Ball State has been abysmal.
I would classify both as abysmal the last 4-5 weeks.
Kent 1-4
Ball 0-5
Kent #119
L 3-42 (@ Louisville #50)
L 13-27 (Buffalo #100) (UB playing with backup QB)
L 3-24 (@ NIU #49)
W 17-14 (Miami #104) (Miami playing with backup QB)
L 3-48 (@ Ohio #73)
3 TDs ... 39 points ... 7.8 ppg ... avg comp ranking of opponents #75
Ball #123
L 21-33 (@ WKU #93) (Lost game in final 1:30 ... led 21-20 with 1:38 left with backup QB)
L 3-55 (@ WMU #62) (Lost backup QB ... down to 3rd string)
L 3-31 (@ Akron #80)
L 9-56 (CMU #91)
L 17-58 (Toledo #29) (Lost 3rd string QB ... down to 4th string)
5 TDs ... 53 points .... 10.6 ppg ... avg comp ranking of opponents #71
Which leads me to the always uplifing fact that Ohio's wins are vs....
EMU #92
UMass #118
Kent #119
BG #121
Kansas #122
So depressing ...
Not even close how bad Ohio's schedule is compared even to the rest of the MAC according to Sagarin
53. Bowling Green
58. Akron
65. Kent State
84. Buffalo
92. Central Michigan
93. Northern Illinois
99. Western Michigan
103. Toledo
105. Ball State
108. Miami-Ohio
146. OHIO
12th worst in the country .... and that's mainly because the Sun Belt stakes claim to 6 worse schedules mainly because they have to play each other .... and they stink worse than the MAC top-to-bottom
