I would welcome a nice wire to wire old fashion beatdown in this game!

But I will take a win of any kind with no injuries or targeting calls, too!

Flashes will be coming in high after a win over the Chickens. Need to bring them back down to Earth!

Agreed. I'd like to see the backups get a lot of time, and the starters get some rest.

So far we've scored 40+ in each of the odd-numbered weeks this season; under 30 in each of the even-numbered weeks. If the pattern holds true, we'll score under 30 this week. But we haven't scored fewer than 21 pts in a game this year, while Kent hasn't scored more than 17 vs a 1A team. Gotta feel good about that.

On the other hand, with Akron's win Sunday at WMU, the visiting team went 4-1 in MAC games this past weekend and has now won 11 of 16. With Fiami coming up next, this could be a trap game, so the Cats really need to be focused.

Isn't every Ohio-Kent game an ugly low-scoring affair? I would be surprised to see a lot of points.

Solich Era Kent games

2016: 14-10 Ohio
2015: 27-0 Ohio
2014: 17-14 Ohio
2013: 44-13 Kent State
2012: 28-6 Kent State
2011: 17-10 Ohio
2010: 28-6 Kent State
2009: 20-11 Kent State
2008: 26-19 Ohio
2007: 33-25 Kent State
2006: 17-7 Ohio
2005: 35-32 Ohio

This is almost always a tight game for Ohio. There's only a few blowouts in the books recently.

Feel like the flashes got beaten up early and often with their early season scheduled. No doubt the Terds will be ranked by end of year so that would give them 3 ranked teams on their schedule.

I do hope our guys are looking past their back ups and can handle business. I am wishing for an early onslaught to build confidence and roll through the second half. I think we put up 28 points in the first and settle for 2 touchdowns in the second with getting the bench some playing time.

Kent has always been a tough one for us, even in the better years. That 2010 loss still stings. Kept us out of the MACCG. But we now have a senior class (except for the fifth years) that has never lost to them. Hope they keep the streak alive.

The fact Kent hasn't scored over 17 points vs FBS team still has my head shaking.

Ideally would love to see Ohio put a hurten on them and blow their doors off.

But would have loved to see that vs overmatched BG & UMass too ... and for whatever reason Ohio played down to their level for good portions of each of those wins.

Good chance to roll into "Rivalry Tuesday" and the start of midweek MACtion on a high note. How about a 49-13 laugher Saturday?

First - anyone have tickets for sale? I need 3-4 for Saturday. Just want to get in on the hill. Nothing top shelf.

Given the HC disappointments I don't know how to view this Kant Game. We have some ugly losses against these clowns as well.

I realize it's only 3 MAC Games but I tend to lean on the conference only stats. I like MOST of what I see. 7 TD's given up in the Red Zone isn't exciting but we have also scored 9 TD's.

Yep which insures a good crowd. It's also Ohio Smoked Meat and BBQ festival in Nelsonville but with the bypass that is no longer a travel concern.

Since Kent's defense has a heartbeat, I'm guessing we'll be lucky to score 24 points so I'm predicting about 24-17 Ohio. I hope it's a blowout for us, but Kent games don't seem to go that way for us very often.

In the Messenger today Arkley says OU waited until the third quarter against BG before "letting" Rourke keep the ball on read options. He suggests we allow that earlier this week. Uh, yeah... As a loyal but Xs/Os deficient fan, I'm not sure I understood he wasn't allowed to keep the ball until he's specifically told to. I figured it would be the opposite. That he had the option all game unless the play was specifically for a hand off. Seems strange to me.

Based on all the stats I have read through I now understand why we are 18pt favorites.
Based on those stats this game should not even be close, despite their good defense.

Is Kent St. going through a Greg Gregory offensive scheme of "I expected to be running the option but I lost faith in it and install a whole new offense every week?" this year?

Their whole offensive scheme was centered around Nick Holley. Now that he's done for the year, they're back in spring camp trying to figure out what to do.

I wish they could have rested more guys. Didn't expect to see as much AJ/Rourke/others. Either we're not as banged up as I thought or we didn't let guys rest enough.

Heck of a dominant win though :)

Well, it was still only 13-3 with 7:59 left in the third quart. After that the score exploded. From that point, AJ had only two carries and Dorian had 4 carries. Those six carries include Dorian's 39 yard run and AJ's 37 yard run a few moments later.

The good news is thatI don't recall seeing any Ohio players taken out with an injury.

The kind of win I needed to see. Glad to see we took care of business. Now comes the money stretch.....
