It will be genuinely difficult to support this team in Detroit if the even-more-unbelievable happens and Kent beats 'Kron next week (assuming we beat Buffalo).

For the record, I had a bad feeling about this game. When I see unapologetic confidence from this board I know something is going to go awry.

Central Michigan was our typical dud game. This loss was not in the same universe.

Would be one of the most crushing losses of Solich era if they drop this one for sure

Well we did what we do best.....we gift wrap titles for other folks.

Congrats Toledo on your MACC, beating Akron won't be hard for you since you already did by 30 points.....
dont get ahead of yourself. Akron could fall to the Flushes next week.
Kent has upset them more than once, and their QB was hurt on the last play.
The problem is that we have to beat Buffalo on the road, which team is going to show up?
I don't really care which team shows up. We don't deserve to win the division after this joke of a game tonight. Akron won a game they had to win, we didn't.

At best we can back our way into Detroit.

Akron literally had 2 defensive starters ejected for targeting

...if Ohio goes for a TD on the 1 right before half they win the game. Just sayin’
You mean that sequence when a TD gets nullified via needless penalty, then Mangen drops a gimme TD pass with nobody on him, then Frank lacked the testicular fortitude (BALLS) to get the 18" we needed for a TD? That FG sequence?

Yes the 2nd period TD called back on a block below the waist was hard to swallow. I wanted to go for it on 4th down at the one yard line also. However when a team turns it over three times and the home team didn't turn it over at all, that was the telling story. This team has been able to overcome turnovers in some games, but not at Akron. I realize some fans will give up and start the usual threads about coaching changes, etc. It won't be easy, but Ohio needs to find a way to get win nine at Buffalo and get another in a bowl game. Ten wins is better than eight. Some others won't care about those games, but I for one want to see how this team responds after this loss.

I think part of how they respond may be whether they still have a shot at the MAC East.

Since Kent/Akron is Tuesday they'll know if they have anything to play for, conference wise.

If there isn't anything to play for the coaching staff may even consider using starters sparingly to avoid injuries before the bowl game.

Were you guys at the Kent game in Athens? There is absolutely positively no chance that team beats any team even remotely decent, especially on the road. I rarely make absolute statements but I have no problem making this one.

This loss is on the players unfortunately. The coaches didn't loose this game. Good effort to many mental mistake.
Idk what you watched, but I watched poor play-calling, in game management, and COMPLETE LACK of defensive game plan.
First of all, I don't give any credence to a person who doesn't know the difference between "loose" and "lose." Second, this is absolutely on the coaches. Motivation, preparation, play-calling -- it's on the coaches. Rourke, for the first time this year, looked frustrated by some of the play-calling. We don't go for it on 4th and goal from the 1 but throw a fade to a 5-foot-7 receiver on 4th and 6? Go "loose" yourself somewhere else.
No need to insult over a typo. I was just saying at times the players didn't execute. I thought the coaching staff was trying to be aggressive and win. A couple of picks, a blown coverage or two on TD throws and a fumble on the kick off doomed us.

And don't forget the two or more dropped passes Akron had in the end zone in the 1st Q.

Totally agree, as there's absolutely no precedent for a superior team coming off a big, emotional win to have a monumental letdown and lay an egg against a vastly inferior opponent.

Oh wait a minute...

Ha, well played. But there are 2 differences...Akron being at home, us being on the road...If it were in Kent, I'd acknowledge a shot. And the talent gap is not as wide...Akron is a competent football team and the game was to draw even in the standings. Kent is miles behind everyone in both talent and standings.

And don't underestimate the power of the Wagon Wheel Game?!?!? (Obviously being incredibly sarcastic)

But seriously ... it is a rivalry game for them, so there is something there.

But the biggest thing is .... KENT MIGHT BE THE WORST TEAM IN THE WORLD!!!!!

They're awful. I wouldn't count on them beating Federal Hocking.

I would estimate our chances of playing for a MACC berth at about .001 percent. That's assuming the entire Akron team joins Thomas Woodson in solidarity and gets suspended too.

The same Akron team that beat us lost to Miami a week ago.

The same Miami team that beat Akron lost to Kent the week before we beat them.

The odds aren't great, but the fact is no one really knows what is going to happen any given Tuesday. I've seen crazier shit happen on Court Street on a Tuesday night than Kent beating Akron.

True

Kent is not the worst team in the world. Clearly, Ball State is. Kent has also found SOME offense in recent weeks, and they did manage to play a competitive game against CMU, who might now be the hottest team in the conference. I still want to throw up after Tuesday night, but there is a chance.
