Yes, the loss to Akron was a big one, no question. There’s been a lot of talk around here already after the Akron loss about how the MACC didn’t happen again this season, but Ohio is still alive in the MAC race and it’s not over yet. Akron “could” lose to Kent State and Ohio “should” beat Buffalo. That would send the Bobcats to Detroit. Kent State has shown some improvement in recent week and has nothing to lose and you know they would love to ruin Akron’s season. And let’s face it, the Zips have no real history of how they handle success because they aren’t really in the role to begin with. Akron knows the importance of this game and will feel the pressure while Kent State won’t have any of that. No one thought Akron would be Ohio last week just like no one expects Kent State to beat Akron this week. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Akron fall flat on its face Tuesday night and see Kent State sneak away with the victory.

I agree, it's possible. Mostly I just want Ohio to beat Buffalo. 9 wins in the regular season is a nice achievement even if you don't get to play for the championship, and as others have pointed out this would be the first time in five years to hit that number.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but our 8 victories this year have been against teams with a combined current won/loss record of 32-56 (36%). Looking deeper, if you remove Toledo from the mix that combined won/loss record goes to 23-54 (29%). As for the 3 teams that have beaten us they have a combined current won/loss record of 18-15 (54%). My point is we play a bottom of the barrel schedule so lets not get too excited when we are fortunate enough to win against a bunch of stiffs with the exception of Toledo.

I don’t disagree with that at all. We all know the MAC East is one of the weakest divisions in all of FBS and has been for awhile. There’s been a couple really good BG teams and one good Kent State squad mixed in with several solid Ohio teams in recent years. Otherwise, the better teams reside in the MAC West. My biggest issue with Ohio football in the last decade has been the weak non-conference schedules. A few of them have been downright embarrassing compared to what our conference peers play. Ohio’s AD/coaching staff seem more concerned with beating the bottom of the barrel P5 teams (see Kansas!) and weak G5 schools than facing much of a test in non-conference play. The fact comes up every year that Ohio has never beaten a Top-25 team in its history, which is pretty crazy considering many, if not all, other MAC schools have done so including some schools multiple times. But when you look at how Ohio schedules teams, it hardly ever even gets to face Top-25 competition. How is Ohio going to ever beat a Top-25 team unless it get chances to play one?

But as for the topic at hand, it’s puzzling to see all the talk on the board as if Ohio has officially been eliminated when it’s still in contention. In 4 days Ohio could be locking up yet another trip to Detroit. I get being frustrated with the loss to Akron, but it didn’t eliminate Ohio from anything. Come on y’all.

They're not out of it, but I'm still going to care a lot about the outcome of the Buffalo game even if Akron beats Kent as they probably will. Doesn't matter what's on the line, I want to see Ohio play their best game.

Akron by the way is a fifteen point favorite, Ohio is only a 3.5 point favorite. So it's actually a fairly even matchup against the Bulls, yeah the Flashes winning is a possibility but even if they do, Ohio has a tough matchup they must win.

A large reason for the MAC East rated as one of the weakest G5 divisions directly relates to Ohio's lack of willingness to play a stronger OOC. I'd like to see us take a crack at the SEC every year where a middle of the pack team is a Top 40 team. I don't see the point in playing an FCS program to pad the win total for eligibility when with so many weak G5 programs out there. SEC pay day, 1 for 1 with a Kansas, Boston College P5 and then a few weak FBS programs Charlotte, Coastal Carolina ect to pad the wins. Probably be rated higher as a 6-6 team than as an 8-4 team on the schedules we play currently. There is a point where its time to man up and play someone.

Compare Akron’s non league schedule. Every MAC school seems to be on that model.

If you remove the bad teams we beat, the win against Toledo looks pretty good.

Because removing any games when the sample size is this small makes a lot of sense.

Leave Toledo in, it still translates into just a combined 36% win record. Maybe that is great in your world, but to me that means that the teams we are beating are basically on life support except for one (Toledo).

The Marshall thing is just on hiatus. They will be back on the schedule.

The Cincy thing... #1, we actually have a 1:1 with Cincy coming up. I'm surprised it doesn't happen a little more, but why doesn't it happen regularly? Because they already have an annual game with Miami. And if you're Cincy, and you fashion yourself a p5 school, you don't take up half your non-conf every year with the MAC, when you're trying to distance yourself from the MAC.

Hey man, what Burger King was it where you spotted Elvis? It's been about 5 years since I last had a Whopper with him.

The schedule should be dumbed down--forget about the 500 fans that like to go to different away games.

Out of conference 1&1's rotate between: Appy State; Troy; Middle Tennessee and Marshall; throw in an occasional ARMY or Navy away. Play your peers and get the Woffords off the schedule and forget about the big money games.

Not to rain on anyone's parade with actual facts, but OOC games since Solich took over include Connecticut, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern (twice), Ohio State (twice), Pitt, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers (twice), Tennessee (twice), Virginia Tech (twice).

Before advocating for more of the same, one might note the 2-16 record in these games, although most of these were surprisingly competitive road games.

I'm so glad to be apart of that class that beat them (Illini). I think I recovered a fumble that game. Me and some of the fellas were talking about that game. And how Juice Williams' mom antagonized our sideline the whole game until TJ Wright stripped the receiver. She stopped talking then. She actually motivates us to win that game with all the smacktalk she did.

Kent defense harassing freshman Kato/OHIO defense didn't lay a glove on him but a week earlier harassed Toledo QB. Good game plan vs Toledo and Kent showing it would have worked against Akron.
