Our defensive backs need to turn to see the ball in coverage and stop face guarding. Face guarding contributed to at least two of the touchdowns and should have yielded two PI calls. The db's also need communicate better, there have been way too many blown coverages. It might help if they yell ball or pass when the ball is in the air. The DB coach needs to make these adjustments or the head coach needs to make an adjustment. The outside linebackers need to contain the edges. We also need to cut down on missed tackles. Nobody should be wagging their finger if they are giving up touchdowns.
Offensively, Rourke has been good for most of the year, but lately he has forced a lot of throws, especially the last two weeks. Akron and Toledo dropped 4 potential interceptions. He needs to watch more film and value each possession. Coach him up, do not let him to unravel like TT. The wide receivers need to do more, they need to take better angles to make db's go through them to get underneath the coverage. We need to play faster wide receivers, I don't know what happened to Cam Odom and the offensive coordinator needs to remember a term that Grobe initially coined FIDO (Forget it and Drive on). If we throw an interception, we cannot just completely abandon the pass. We need to be aggressive.
Finally, the coordinators need to do a lot better, they need to be micromanaged. I don't want to hear stability and continuity, what has it gotten us. Albin has been substandard for a long time and we have overlooked Burrow's decline. Akron did not have on play for over 50 yards all season until they played us, we gave up 50 points to Umass and 40+ to Purdue Let's go Cats, this is the only way forward. We need more discipline starting at the top.
