Just an epic failure in all phases of the game. But let’s hear the people who will pat this staff on the back and tell them it is ok, nothing embarrassing to see here. I understand the bad times, I get that, but another no show in a big moment. I know many on this board is so ok with this and will happily accept this result, MACC is what staffs need to deliver after 10 years, not epic choke jobs. That is what tonight is. So let the excuses flow, sure there is nothing to see here, all is well. Enjoy The Who gives a crap bowl, and accept failure. The moment was too big for this staff and team, that is very sad, telling, and consistent.

I have always asked myself, "Would you rather have a few transcendent Central years or a transcendent year like Western had last year for the Frank years?" I can now say, unequivocally that after this loss to Akron, I would rather have a transcendent year or two. I feel utter disappointment. I feel like coaches have been fired for LESS than a loss like this or LESS than no MAC championships in 10 years. Coordinators have been fired for LESS than Burrow and Albin have given us. How can anything be justified here by this team? Sad. To go from MAC title favorites to not even making a MAC title game is pathetic. I can't believe the way I feel right now. I want us to say "no" to a bowl game now. I don't want to see this team play another game this year. And it's coming after a week when I was making Detroit plans.

Just finished typing my post in the game thread using the word apologist. Not sure how you can pin this in a big way on the staff when we were up big early. Three turns lead to 21 points for ‘kron and that is a tough hole for any team to dig out of. Sure you can argue play calling, but we lose Dorian for most of the game and we lose a lot of options in the run game. No doubt this is a crusher, tough swallow for sure.

I see what you're saying, but it was the staff's decision to kick a FG on 4th and 1 from the goal line.

Dorian Brown doesn't play defense. He also doesn't call for a fade to a 5-8 receiver on 4th down after kicking a FG on 4th and goal from the 1.

Disappointing and sickening loss. Over confident? Not prepared? Pass defense in first half was terrible - How could the corner blitz & leave man wide open for TD? We need a secondary coach! We had all of the officiating calls going our way.

And the coaches didn’t turn the ball over three times in short fields that led to -21 points, so what’s your point?

The last Ohio drive was a disaster from a kickoff return, running AJ up the middle twice in the row and not having WR run a route long enough for a first down. That last scoring drive by Akron had an amazing scramble by Nelson, a bit of luck there. Yellow penalty flag kept the Cats in the game all night so to be honest we didn't deserve to win.

The point of this thread is to see if people apologize for Frank's coaching. Every year for the past 5 years we have ended the season saying "this should be Frank's last year," or "Why do we keep taking pride in the 'we have the longest tenured staff' thing as a source of pride?" This should be the nail in the coffin. Coaches around the country are fired for way less than the mediocrity we now show. And this won't get any better in the future. We lose our entire D-line, two solid LB's, Brown, Cope...next year will be 8-4 or 7-5 again.

Average/mediocrity is celebrated in this program, because we all remember how it was.

Secondary got torched. The blitz by Ellis that nobody covered was an absolutely stupid defensive call. Not going for the TD on the 1 is playing to not lose instead of playing to win. A 19 yard FG in the 1st half is for pussies. Lack of energy, lack of focus and play calling are on the coaches. Lack of dynamic playmakers is on the recruiting talents of the coaches. This staff has beaten a bunch of terrible teams over the years to rack up win totals and always found a way to lose the most important games along the way. The defining wins during the Solich era are vs historically powerful programs (Pitt, Penn St., etc) that happen to be suffering down years when we play them. Guess it's time to fire up the car and head to Troy to have them teach our guys how to finish 2nd in the MAC East for another decade.

Ohio is looking realistically at 9 or 10 wins for 2017 which continues the uptrend from 2014 the 6-6 season. Staff is safe for at least one more year IMO.

Besides Toledo, who have they really beaten this year? A bunch of s*** on the schedule.

Yes, the staff is safe because we accept mediocrity and embrace average. We play a bunch of stiffs and rack up 7, 8 or 9 wins a year and pat ourselves on the back and go to 3rd rate bowl games and lose. But yes, unfortunately the staff is safe for another year. I have come to the conclusion that we will never win a MACC with this staff. Sad but true.

Can't argue with an inflated record but 9 or 10 wins for a MAC program isn't something you can fire for. There is a QB who is leading the NCAA in rushing TDs to build around. Frank will pass the 100 win milestone in 2018. The administration isn't going to pull the plug.

I'll guess we beat Buffalo (and Akron beats Kent by a point, because... that's our luck), and then we suffer our annual bowl game defeat.

But no one is firing Solich after a 9-3 season. We're not Alabama.

Yeah, I want us to win the conference at least once in my lifetime. But 9-3 is not a record for which one loses his job -- not in THIS conference. And not after the likes of Cleve Bryant, Tom Lichtenberg and Brian Knorr have led this program.
