And hot chocolate sales netted $43.

Taking a look at the stats, if $66,000 in beer was sold at an average of $7.50 per beer, that's only 8,800 beers sold this season. With attendance at 116,325, you're telling me that only about 7% of attendees at Peden had a beer? (likely less since this doesn't account for fans having more than one beer)

That's the most shocking stat of the season.

By comparison, approximately 20% of OSU's fans had a beer at 2016 home games.

Let use it to fund an open bar in the Bahamas!

[QUOTE=The Post]Ohio University Spokesman Dan Pittman said AVI Foodsystems, the Ohio Athletics’ concessionaire, grossed $66,005 in beer sales.

It's a start and beats $0. That said, percentage of Saturdays that one or more varieties of Jackie O's was sold out well ahead of the end of beer sales: 100

I hope they do better next year as they iron out the kinks.

I think it would be more precisely stated: "...only about 7% of attendees at Pedan [purchased] a beer [through official channels]"

In my experience (Kansas) demand was definitely not the limiting factor. Speed of service & availability of the offered items was absolutely crushing profitability.

I think a larger % of our fanbase has a significant drive after the game.

Also, it's only sold on one half of the stadium.

If it's a positive net, then keep it going. I'm all for it. We had no significant alcohol fueled incidents, except for Bobcat Pete attracting the ire of stadium security only once :)

This is why the long arguments both for and against beer sales were funny.

There wasn't that much to gain, there wasn't that much to lose.

$20 grand? that's not chump change to our department. That's a scholarship. Anything that makes a profit in Athens is a good thing.

Not quite a scholarship. But it’s better than nothing

Yep. I had 4 vs Hampton, which wasn't a bad line, because it was in the middle of a hurricane.

Vs. Kansas I had 2 because I had the foresight to buy both in the pregame. I went back for a third at the end of halftime, and decided against standing in a line stretching all the way to Gate 3.

Ditto vs. Central Michigan.

It's a logistics problem, not a demand problem.

The hashtag you note above is the ticket, along with the efficiency of the operation. I had a couple for Kansas, none for Hampton, one for Homecoming, and none on the 10/21 game. As noted, the two games I had none were the result of having to drive home myself without a driver. I know this is year one, but it's good to see it turned a profit. Now it's time to get creative and efficient to make it a greater money maker. The beer garden idea would be one potential way to make more. Transport that Bobcat Club hospitality area in the form of a beer tent/garden.

The same situation is going to apply for basketball season for me. More than one at the game after 2+ at Jackie O's is out of the question when there's an 85 mile drive home. But I do like the idea that on those weeknight games I can get to The Convo and have a dog and a beer at the game rather than sprinting up the hill for those things. Might have to try that tomorrow night for Iona.

I know there are so many message board posters that think they are experts at different things, but for the university to only make $2.62 per beer sold really is disappointing. Who gives a vendor a 65% cut on that?

I truly believe that if BobcatAttack took this on, not only would we have a better serving system in place, we'd make more money for the university AND have enough to buy all of us soft pretzels.

Actually the vendor gets it all and then pays the University a % based on total sales at the end of the year. The more money AVI makes the higher % return on concessions sales.

I can imagine that the weekday games also hurt total sales. Having 5-6k in the seats on a cold Tuesday night in November probably doesn’t have the same demand as a Saturday day/night game

I understand that. My point is that the university should have signed a contract with a vendor that can provide a better deal for the school. Selling beer at a college stadium is really not that difficult, yet there were logistical issues -- long lines, supply issues, etc. -- that affected profits. Palmer Fest is run better. No way a vendor should be getting the 65% cut on this.

I'm not so sure about that. Your body is going to metabolize out one beer per hour. If you tailgate or pregame at a bar for two hours and have 3 beers and then have another three at the game, that's six beers in six hours of which less than two will still be in your bloodstream when you walk out of the stadium. You might be a little more tired, but in no way are you legally intoxicated.

AVI has the concession rights, OHIO Athletics cannot simply divide up it's products mid-contract. If beer was going to be sold, beer was going to be sold through AVI. Want to introduce turkey legs onto next years menu, AVI will be the one selling those turkey legs.

Even more if you're a large guy and drinking a light beer! haha

The cash only thing still kills me. I wanted a beer at Homecoming but couldn't get one because I didn't have cash and there's no ATM in the stadium.

Weirdo ;)

I've been carrying the same $20 in my wallet for about 9 months. Outside of going to bars in Athens, if I can't pay for it with a credit card, I get it from someone or someplace else.

Real men carry cash. Always.

Gotta say, I thought we were much better than this. $66K ? That's it? Where's the party school I used to know?
