Now granted, this isn’t apples-to-apples, as I’m a lifetime WV resident, most of my family attended there (I got a Masters there as well) and are diehard Mountaineer fanatics—but this would be #2 All-Time for me considering the variables (not to mention NIL making the gap even larger as I think WVU is #27 in their collective).
Where would this rank for everyone if we could get this one, or not an All-Timer if
you don’t have the WV roots?

I would probably put it behind the win at Penn State in 20212, but certainly at the top of the list that follows.

The wins over Minnesota and Illinois were nice, but those are programs that have been lower tier in the BIG for a few generations.

I don't have any personal or family ties to West Virginia but as a G5 program, any win over a P5 program is a good notch in the belt.

The win over Iowa State in 2023 was probably the highest quality win from a national relevance standpoint the Cats had earned in a while, and this would maybe leap in front of that, although I think the Cyclones have been on a better run as of late than the Mountaineers.

What I would love to see is many 'neer fans who live in the Mid-Ohio Valley or other points closer to Athens come to the game, love their experience, and maybe come back to watch the Cats more.

It'll be the best win we've had until the following week when we beat Ohio State.

Recent victories...

1) Pitt - Walk-off pick 6 vs a ranked team at home? Don't get better than that. Frank game one vs a Pitt team that went to the Fiesta Bowl the year before, with 1st year Dave Wanstedt)
2) Penn State - OU scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half to secure the victory in front of 100,000 stunned fans.
3) Iowa State - Got em right before they got good in 2024. But right after we beat them that game they went on to be TCU, Cincinatti, Baylor in the next 4 weeks.

4) WVU - They're not very good, so it's a good time to pounce, but Rich Rod's 1st season back should be interesting. I think it's gonna be awesome for the city regardless, but would be an insane weekend if they won.

Thought I'd post here, something I placed on Wikipedia several years ago, about another victory over WVU.  Though, despite what you might think, I wasn't there, I actually did have some passing acquaintance with a man who was -- Charles G. O'Bleness.  And, I should point out that in those days, TD were only counted as five points, not six points.  Here's the Wikipedia clip:

The 1897 season, which produced the best record of any of the 19th Century campaigns, started with two straight losses—to Marietta College and Cincinnati. The team then reeled off seven straight with victories over Muskingum College, Dennison College, Ohio Medical University, West Virginia University, Otterbein College, Marietta College, and Ohio Deaf and Dumb Institute. The home 12-0 victory over WVU inspired a poem that appeared in The Athens Messenger and Herald newspaper.

And they came and they were conquer'd
With swift dispatch and ease,
And they felt that twinging sorrow which
In vain they could appease
Thought not that woe awaited them
Across Ohio's stream.
And like the poet found that things
Aren't ever what they seem.

And they came from fair Virginia
The place of Morgantown.
Where swift Monogahela flows
Past mountains looking down:
Proud and boasting came they hither
To wrestle for the goals
Which they found almost as quickly
As disembodied souls.

Badly battered left they homeward
In vain could they conceal
The awful havoc of their bucks
'Gainst O.U.'s pointed steel:
And they left here sad but wiser
Of many manly tricks,
For the gridiron here is hot
As Athens politics.

Pitt was not Solich’s first game at OHIO. We opened at Northwestern and got beat 38-14. It was his first game at Peden.

I am a WVU fan that bought OU season tickets. But I generally love college football. And I am planning to use my season tickets for a couple of the midweek games to take my son and a few of his high school teammates just to enjoy a game and the college atmosphere.

I use to do the same with Marshall until they out grew their britches and started to attack WVU at every opportunity. But I dont have to tell the Bobcats how obnoxious Marshall can be. You have a history of you own there.

I personally don’t think beating WVU this year would be very shocking, or rank all that high on an all time win list unless they go on to have a big year. We’ve beat Big 12 opponents at home very recently (Kansas, Iowa State) so the only thing this would have going for it is the regional aspect. Iowa State almost won their division in the Big 12 the year we beat them.

I’m not saying I expect us to be favorites, but this would not be a shocking win if we’re healthy for the game and Parker can make some magic happen.
