Akron had the second-worst APR in FBS last year. This year...the worst. Banned from post season play, including a MAC title game. Great (empty) stadium, though.

What's crazy about this - other than it happened last year, and I think a few years before - is not many of these dudes are majoring in bio chem, they're taking FBS 101, athletes get their schedules padded with nonsense all the time. Especially after last season. ESPECIALLY those that are struggling. Your WHOLE TEAM is struggling? Do they not have study tables? Is there no accountability whatsoever? Hell, even on Last Chance U coaches would lose their shit if these JUCO kids were getting bad grades.

I'm not saying they need the death penalty, but maybe they need the death penalty.

That would likely kill the program, but its pretty clear they need a HARD reset. It's not like they're winning and skipping class, they're losing at an alarming clip and still not going to class.

Embarrassing.

This isn't just a Zippie athletic program problem, it's the whole darn school. Time to abolish UA and make what is salvageable the urban campus of KSU.

Do academics matter anymore in the professional era? It’s pretty sad.

The repeat violator rule aka death penalty was designed to punish schools who are committing MAJOR NCAA rules violations. I highly doubt the NCAA gives two shits about Akron football not being able to remain eligible. They've got bigger fish to fry at the moment.

They could have the nicest stadium in the FCS though. Whoops, no, 2nd nicest next to the Kibbie Dome.

And yet the NCAA just punished FORDHAM for some BS recruiting violations.

So hilarious where they draw the line.

A photoshoot at Times Square...? I mean... Fordham is in NYC. That's part of the draw? It's not like they flew them to Dubai.

Is OU going to face penalties if a recruit takes a photo at White's Mill?

It's crazy. I work with folks whose sole job at OU is keeping track of the athlete's academics. It's insane that they (athletes) get this kind of help because this is actually the kind of system special needs students have been in dire need of in the public K-12 setting for decades. Their literal job is to make sure the athletes A) go to class B) do their work C) Study D) if you're not doing one of the above, you need to be at practice/working out or at the library E) stay off Court Street. So, how does Akron not have this kind of system in place? How are they all doing so poorly in underwater basketweaving and study habits 102?
