That may hurt those guys, being so late in the coaching change cycle. We shall see. He sure turned those guys around and were pretty good lately

That man has ridden the coattails of being associated with Tom Brady at Michigan for his entire career. He jumped from OC job to OC job and those teams went anywhere from mediocre to downright awful on offense. BG wasn't good for their standards of where they were at under Babers, Clawson or Meyer. They were mediocre. How does he keep doing this?

The header here should be “Scott Loeffler’s dog is sick.”

That said, bolting town just prior to Spring practice is just brutal.

The timing of this is just BRUTAL for BG. Both signing periods have come and gone, the first batch of transfers (the main movement period) is over, and they're on the verge of starting spring ball. And then this?! Wow....BG wasn't the program it was 10 years ago, but it was tracking in the right direction. But this is just a killer blow. You can rebuild relatively quickly nowadays in college football with the portal, but not in the situation BG is in right now with the timing. Had this happened 4-6 weeks ago, they could have pivoted and recovered. But now, they're going to likely see the roster implode (guys now have 30 days to jump ship and they've already started going) and the second portal window has much slimmer pickings no matter who they end up hiring. Awful situation for them right now.

I seem to remember our timing being a little worse than this, and it ended up okay.

One thing that might work in their favor is they always have co-coordinators. So potentially 4 internal candidates, in addition to possibly Mike Denbrock landing with them. I wonder if Julie has good things to say and they might reach out to her.

I hate it for them, but what a nice score for Loeffler.

Eddie George is a top target for BG.

Well Eddie George got the BG job. I expect that he will crush recruiting especially in Ohio with his well known name, and turnaround that program very quickly.

I expect the same, but you never know. the higher the level, the less your celebrity matters and your coaching ability will come to the forefront. Is he a great coach? we'll find out.

Should also note that today's high schoolers probably have no idea who Eddie George is. Their parents will share stories of yore I'm sure, but recency bias is a thing.

Kudos to BG for thinking ‘outside the box’.

That’s a home run hire for them and will definitely hurt us in recruiting, at least in the short term.

Looking at this comment now, one may argue that's a reason they went after a name like Eddie George, so they have at least a fighting chance....

What is outside the box in hiring a coach who has had success at a lower level.

Hiring a multi-millionaire, Heisman winning, HOF career worthy, restuarant owning demi-God in the city of Columbus perhaps?

You're asking what is outside the box about hiring a 24-22 FCS coach?

That's a tough one!

If his name wasn't Eddie George you would be leading the charge on burning this place to the ground if we replaced Albin with that.

Have no idea what George will do as a coach for the Falcons. However in
todays college football world, George will probably have no problem getting money for his NIL collective.

oh, you mean a guy who has coaching experience and had some success at one of the absolute worse and poorest programs in college football?

Check Tennessee States record pre-George and casually forget he won a league title. Kind of like Frank, took a bad program, won some games, but Eddie won a conference title. How many of those did Frank win in the MAC?

George brings in QB Drew Pyne.

Pyne was a starter at ND before leaving for Arizona St. when he lost the Irish job to WF transfer Sam Hartman. Pyne then transferred from ASU to Missouri for a year before returning to ND last year with the sole purpose of getting a degree from ND and becoming eligible for a grad transfer and 1 more year of eligibility.

That's a mouthful and something that was unheard for over a century of college football.
