So was thinking the other night and talking to a few young alums, I wanted to gather some thoughts for how to go down to the Cincinnati game. I know it's a bit early but we were talking and brainstorming some thoughts.

For one, wasn't sure about alums jumping on a bus down to a game. Get one for a day, folks drink on the way down, then tailgate, and then go to a game.

Or as I was talking with OU_Country, maybe getting a few parking spots at UC through some of the friends on the grapevine and having a killer tailgate from there.

Thoughts or suggestions as to how that would work? Keep in mind, if I did a bus it would roll from Toledo and down 75.....

I might be interested if you make a stop along the way, at Wapakoneta?

This topic has already started coming up with my group of friends as well. We've tried to attend a big OOC home game whenever they are in driving range since we graduated (Marshall, Louisville, Tennessee, Purdue) and this game has been circled for awhile.

We're planning on carpooling to Cincinnati Friday night, tailgating Saturday and then staying Saturday night. I think a decent amount young alums will carpool down. In addition to Cincinnati alum base, I think you could easily get interest for a bus from both Cleveland/Akron and also Cbus. Facebook event would be my thought on how to coordinate that.

I think it's a good idea to bring this topic up now. What is the parking/tailgate situation like at UC? Both the Marshall and Louisville parking situations lended themselves to specific lots that ended up being packed with Bobcats. With UC's campus being more urban, are there really tailgate lots at all?

I would maybe do Lima and/or Findlay. At that point would be then to Dayton, then onto Cincy if we needed to fill a bus. With it being roughly 3 hours by bus to Cincy from Toledo straight up, it would mean leaving Toledo by 6am for a 12pm kick and getting in to tailgate prior to the game. At least rough draft thinking.....

Clifton has gone through a major overhaul which makes it attractive for gamedays. FC Cincinnati has taken full advantage of this for their matches at Nippert.

That being said, the best places for gatherings are at any of the what seems like 100 breweries in the area. Problem is, none of them are really within walking distance to campus.

If enough people would plan on coming, it might be beneficial to clear off some space at one of those places then shuttle over to Nippert for the game.

Now, I have no idea what the tailgating atmosphere is like. But I can't imagine there is that much useful space around the stadium. Any time I have gone to a game with season ticket holders, they usually hang uptown.

Lima is a possibility, Findlay is getting a bit far north, might as well meet in Toledo but I don't want to go 2 hours north to go 4 hours south.

They have a small but loyal and tenacious tailgating crowd and good fans overall. As some of my Cincinnati alum friends who still live in the 'Nati like to say "Buckeyes Who? This is Bearcats Country." But the fervency is much more intense for the basketball program.
Here is a map of the general area:

I've never attended a game at Nippert but am looking forward to it. I've spent a great deal of time in Clifton and Corryville (much of the gentrification is actually in Corryville - on "Short" Vine and just around the corner. There are a great deal of nice pubs and restaurants right there and it's a very friendly area of the city (but don't stray too far, lol). I recommend this hotel. It's my go-to when a good show is at Bogarts:

It's essentially right up the hill from Nippert and you can see the stadium from Short Vine.
It'll be a good trip.

I've been to and tailgated at one Cincinnati football game. There's an open green space north of Nippert by the alumni center that serves as their main tailgate area, but as I remember, you couldn't park your car there. It looks like all of the on-campus tailgating will require a pass, so best bet may be to tailgate at an off-campus lot.

I plan getting a pretty big group together of family and friends. There will be a mix of Bobcat and Bearcat fans. It's also great that we play at Miami thiscoming season as well. Hopefully that's a weekend game as well so I can tailgate twice without leaving my backyard.
