There's an article in today's The Record titled "Bowls Highlight Growing Divide" by Paul Myerberg of USA today.

Just google the title.

It does a really good job of dissecting the whole football playoff / "lesser" bowl situation.

Not sure if it was in your article due to the timing. But the NCAA made some changes to bowl tie-ins. The new formula gave the MAC two more guaranteed bowl tie-in games now.
