We are friends with a player who has gone from undrafted free agent to active roster to practice squad to back/forth to waived and claimed by another team. Then, from special teams to rotation player to starter until the head coach was fired. Then, to another team as a special teams player/back-up to starter. Just got his first multi-year deal. It's been fascinating to talk with him about the process and how you prepare yourself for everything. So much discipline is required with the football part of it.
This young man is smart -- earned his undergrad degree on time -- and has the leadership potential to succeed out of football whenever he wants to do so.
We have friend who was drafted in the 7th round out of Stanford.
He played 4 years with the Cardinals.Don't know if he was ever a starter.
Then he went to the Browns.Played a couple of seasons there.Again, don't know if he ever started.
Then he bounced around the league, but never did much.
What's amazing is how much "damage" he's sustained.
In college he had his one knee reconstructed at least twice.
He can't bend his fingers, has no finger or toe nails left.
The joys of playing in the NFL.
