When I got recruited to OU, I saw a lot of undesirable things on my visit but it made me want to be a part of the change. I remember seeing students wear shirts that stated, "Athens, a party school with a football problem."

Fast forward 16 years later and to be mentioned in the Top 20 is amazing.

The comment in this article about barefoot Athenians had me cracking up laughing. I do not remember seeing this as much...but the editor makes fun of it.

It is amazing. I think everyone here loves Ohio football, but I'm not sure we should crack the top 20 cities in the country for being a college football town. Sure, we've come a long way since Frank has been here, but is Athens really a football town on Saturdays...er...Tuesday/Wednesday nights?

Top party school? Yes.
Top college town? Yes.
Top football town? [insert confused little girl gif]

Why cant we?

We were voted most underrated atmosphere. We've had many winning seasons since Frank got to town. Won bowl games. Most consistent in the conference along with Northern ILL and Toledo over a 12-15 year span. Known for top attendance in the MAC. New add ons to the building. Hell my first recruiting trip was OUs first night in 2001. Reached the Top #25 in 2012. Made a debut NFL coach look stupid on our first home game with Solich. Great bars and nightlife. Why dont we deserve that honor?

I love Athens. I love Ohio Football. But do you honestly believe Athens is 19th best college football town in America?

Everything you list is true -- about the team. Winning seasons. Bowl games. Facilities improvements. But the town support? Student support?

This list has us ahead of Blacksburg, Va., Tempe, Ariz., Gainesville, Fla., Auburn, Ala., Knoxville, Tenn., and Lincoln, Neb.

Really?

Do you really think all of those towns support their football team less than Athens supports the Bobcats?

Here's the methodology on the list from the author, who likely has not been to 90% of the towns on his list: "This is completely arbitrary and at the will of yours truly."

Are barefoot people in Athens a thing?

I mean, yeah, you get the occasional hippie dancing on College Green barefoot, but I don't know that I would consider it our biggest problem.

Seems like the amount of broken glass that can sometimes be found uptown would serve to limit going barefoot...that and the winter months.
