Hello all. I thought I would throw this on here in case anyone wants to see it. As I've mentioned before on here, my cousin has been to/visited/toured 129 out of the 130 current FBS stadiums across the country (the only one he has left to see is Hawaii). He's been doing a theme over the last few weeks of making music videos with pictures and videos that he has from many of his stadium visits. He was back in Athens this past weekend and took all new pictures and video of Peden Stadium and just posted it and sent me the link. There are several clips of the new end zone facility on here too. Enjoy!

Watching that video really makes me wonder if the AD should have waited on the scoreboard project and put it atop the Academic center instead. It looks so far away from the field back there on the hill.

The Convo scoreboard and speakers weigh +/- 16,000 lbs.

The Peden scoreboard and any speakers would weigh a lot more.

That means beefing up the roof's steel big time. This increases the cost significantly.

Another concern is wind load.

You'd basically be putting up a "sail" on top of the building.

Again,it gets expensive to design supports to withstand that type of wind loads.

I like the scoreboard in the open endzone. if you put it on top of the academic center, then folks in the corners would have a hell of a time seeing it.

However, the whole structure should be moved closer in the South EndZone.

Ah fair point. The scoreboard would be useless in the corners.

Could just go out an get a second one to put on top of Sook.

It is a great video.

I just wish Sook would have been further along when they filmed it.

Let’s go big or go home, how about a smaller board on the Academic Center? Then fans can watch either board where the action is.

There aren't many times when I would suggest BA subscribers look at following something that has been done by Marshall University, but their scoreboards at the Joan are what we need at Peden. I agree, a scoreboard on top of the Sook wouldn't have to be as large as what we have on the hill, but a smaller one would be a great asset to the stadium. It wouldn't have to always mimic what is being shown on the big scoreboard. Maybe it could scroll scores of other games while play is happening on the field. I would imagine there are lots of possibilities for the second scoreboard. The need is definitely there.

Just to bring a bit of reality (rain on the parade) to the Sook scoreboard idea.

If you look at the Peden video, much of the roof is being used for HVAC equipment.
Doesn't leave much room for a scoreboard.

Plus,at this point in the project,I don't know if its even possible to beef up the roof's steel enough to support a scoreboard.

The Convo scoreboard, without speakers is 12,000 lbs.

A scoreboard for Sook would need to be significantly larger and "durable" (weather resistant),so figure at least double/triple that weight.

Plus,as I posted before, the scoreboard is basically a "sail",so you have to deal with big time wind loads.

A smaller, ribbon style board across the top of the face of the Sook wouldn't be as big of a load, would be better than the ones we have now, and could be used for advertising and promotion.

So if I'm interpreting your comments correctly, you're saying that in your professional opinion, the only responsible course of action OHIO Athletics can take is to buy a classroom-style projector and use it to project a pseudo-scoreboard onto a giant sheet tied in place on the new Academic center's side? ;)

Presuming you put slits in it so the wind won't tear it to shreds. :-)
