Having been involved in bodybuilding since an adolescent, including the Southern California bodybuilding scene, I remember a time when such training was seen as a little less than manly by more traditional sports. I guess that results don't lie; however, one of the long time philosophies of that particular scene is that "no pain; no gain." Unfortunately, I have seen too many bodies, including my own, become destroyed by such over training. This article does a nice job of explaining that many of the modern day gurus of strength training are mere sadists, who while good at getting results in the moment, are not qualified enough to see that many training regiments can quickly turn positive gains into negative ones.
I have found myself wondering in recent years if the Bobcats' injury issues later in the season are not connected to over training in the preseason.
