I know it doesn't mean much (anything!) after 1 game, but according to SI.com, we are sitting pretty in the Dollar General Bowl vs. Troy (again!).

These things are always wrong, but you heard it here first...start looking into flights to Boise because that's where we're headed. (assuming we can get to 8 wins)

Way too early for this (cripes, we barely beat Howard at home).

But, it's not too early to prepare for a scenario that looks familiar to previous years. There's only so many low-tier bowls we can go to. That's why I thought last year turned out to be a great scenario for Ohio in the Bahamas. Not sure it gets better than that bowl-wise*

*with the exception of the extremely rare Orange Bowl/Fiesta Bowl appearance by a MAC team

The only bowl prediction that matters is the one after the MACCG.

My prediction is that we will make a bowl game.

My prediction is that many people will be disappointed by it.

Is that a prediction per se or based on some inside type of info that Boise is looking to have the Cats back?

I think you're exactly right. Ohio, unless its in the access bowl, will only be going to handful of lower-tiered bowls, bowls it's already been too repeatedly, probably. And the opponents will generally be a Sun Belt or CUSA opponent, again probably a team its already played, like App State, Troy, UAB, Southern Miss, etc.

This certainly is plausible, as Ohio hasn't been to the Spud Bowl for awhile. If the Bobcats want to avoid a winter vacation in Idaho, the best answer is for them to win out, and hope for an invitation to a better bowl.

These predictions are based on nothing.

Not on nothing. There are a finite number of bowls that have MAC ties. Those bowls, and the conference, like to rotate the schools around so that the same school doesn't keep going to the same place. Therefore, the odds of a return to the Bahamas this year are long, and the odds of going a place that Ohio hasn't been in awhile are higher (especially since it seems that the tie-ins this year are CUSA versus AAC). The MAC Bowl tie ins are:
1. Cheribundi Tart Cherry Bowl, aka Boca Raton Bowl - Ohio has not been there

2. Dollar General Bowl - formerly the GMAC bowl, last visit 2016

3. Spud Bowl - last visit 2011

4. Friso Bowl - New Bowl, Ohio has never been to Friso, Texas

5. Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, last visit 2015

My prediction is that Ohio goes to Frisco, Texas, or Boca Raton, since those would be new to Ohio.

This is the first prediction I've seen that is actually based on something. The something here is where the Cats have last played and what bowl opportunities exist. Analysis like this is not being done by the publications.

When my son played on the eighth-grade football team, they were invited to the mythical "national championship" tournament in North Carolina over Thanksgiving weekend. Big scam run by hotels and restaurants - attracted hundreds of families.

These college bowl games have the same feel.

Makes you wonder if the lower-tier bowls should shuffle their bowl affiliations around every 5 years or so. It has to hurt the bowl itself to have repeat teams/matchups. Fans are much less likely to travel to a place they have already been.

Ergo my belief that the two most like destinations, if Ohio makes a bowl, are Boca Raton and Frisco.

Both of those bowls would be okay. Not sure they’d beat the Bahamas Bowl, but other than the Rose Bowl, what would? ;)
