Just as G5 teams sometimes beat P5 teams, FCS teams sometimes beat G5 teams, and even beat P5 teams once in a very long while (remember App State beating Michigan a few years back?). Thankfully, despite the scare, it didn't happen.

It’s good to win this game

If nothing else this game provides a lesson in humility and will serve as a constant reminder that no opponent can be ever be over-looked. Perhaps this can be “the hangover cure” this team will use to avoid the kind of disaster that was the Akron game for last year’s team.

In 1981 the Bengals finally made the Super Bowl. They opened the season by defeating Seattle. Kenny Anderson was booed off the field that day and Turk Schonert led the team to the win. Anderson went on to lead the Bengals to their first AFC championship and trip to the Super Bowl in one of the greatest seasons in franchise history.

That's my observation of the good.

One good is Ohio had two secondary starters missing who should be ready in two weeks for the next game. Some other guys got good experience. Ohio won despite an awful performance. Good teams have to find ways to win when not playing their best.
+1. A lot of those 3rd down conversions were post routes over the middle, where an experienced all-conference safety like Hagan makes all the difference. His absence probably resulted in two Howard TDs.

The young guys showed athleticism. Now they have to figure out how to play defense at the college level, where everyone is a good athlete.

The front seven did a good job of stopping the run. Dorsa and Conner did well for their first starts against a very difficult triple option team to defend with gap assignments. Evan Croutch will be a stabilizing leader for the other young backers this season and Conner’s man coverage is really good already. Gullett did a good job at linebacker other than the two roughing the passer penalties. Our secondary will improve with Hagan and Hudson back in the lineup. Maxwell played what I thought was his best game as a Bobcat. I was able to resist the urge to burst my own eardrums to avoid listening to the voice of the girl doing the time out crowd entertainment.

The game got mentioned in Peter King's column today:

k. QB of the Week: Howard’s Caylin (5-foot-11 Brother of Cam) Newton, who had 73 touches on 92 offensive snaps—52 passes, 21 rushes—accounting for 532 yards in Howard’s 38-32 loss at Ohio University on Saturday. Ohio’s my alma, so I know they’re going to be pretty good this year. Good for Newton taking the Bobcats to the limit.

The defense gave up a huge amount of points and yards to a fcs program. Atleast the bye week comes in week 2 for the team to regroup. This is where the coaching staff earns their money. They got a few weeks before conference play to fix the issues with this team. Non-conference games are preseason games in NCAA. We aren't elite power 5 conference team so its more a tune up for the real deal which is the MAC schedule. Clearly the defense is a work in progress. Frank has two quarterbacks so he can go with the hot hand during games.

It looked to me that we did not suffer any injuries? Right?
