Partly cloudy and 86 degree home opener. Doesn't matter that it's FCS. 22,949

And throw in the fact that it’s the only Saturday afternoon home game of the year! Well almost.....😆

Gotta agree with shabamon; I say 23,404.

I will be missing this one while w/family in the wilderness of NW Ontario at a fly in fishing outpost. Totally off the grid - which is great - except I will not know what happens the Howard or VA games until back at the fly in/out base - which kinda sucks....

Just looking at the season ticket numbers and single game numbers that are available....would say it's going to go to 18k at most.....

I agree that numbers will be down due to the decrease in season tickets sold. But we'll find a way to top 20k for the opening game + band day.

18,100 announced...actual will be (visibly) less.

Don't underestimate that the early start time will hurt student attendance. The student side is an oven in the afternoon.

The rumors of low season ticket numbers certainly seem to hold water. Tower side was as sparse as I've seen for a Saturday game in years.

This video of the 110 halftime performance really shows what it was like:
https://youtu.be/J4O2MGhF9Vo?t=10m2s

Compare to Band Day from 2016 - against EMU that was cold weather, not even the opener:
https://youtu.be/AYn6X3gK2Pc?t=9m59s

That difference is pretty big. If I'm the AD, those images show that fans are going elsewhere. Yesterday's performance won't help one bit.

Just checked on the price of single game tickets for the rest of the season - way cheaper than previous years. $20, $25, $10, $10, and $10 for the next five home games in order.

When most of your fan base lives 75 miles or more away from the venue, the weekday games are a killer in terms of season ticket sales. Two FBS home games ended a run of many years in a row of season tickets for me, and it'll take a much more user-friendly schedule to get me back. I doubt I'm alone.

That’s a lot of revenue that is going to be lost. Can’t wait to see the end of year finances and how that is going to look.....

Under represented, the place was PACKED, new capacity figures are not yet figured in with Sook, we may see 28k this season.

What proof do you have that most fans come from 75+ Miles? Just curious

Not sure what you were looking at in terms of "under represented"?

The corner seats, where a lot of season ticket holders have seats, were pretty empty. I think 18K was about right. Student turnout was great ... until 3rd quarter started and they all bolted.

Pretty typical Ohio crowd with a lousy opponent.

I'm one fan 72 miles (driveway to Peden) away and long-time season ticket holder. I decided to not renew this season due to: 1) another lousy home schedule and 2) son's weekly Saturday baseball doubleheaders (9 and 11 a.m.) through mid-October. Bought a GA ticket on stubhub Friday night for Howard game for $6 and arrived inside the Stadium with a few minutes left in 1st half.

I guess I should clarify and call it the potential fan base. A large number of living alumni live in the larger metro areas of Ohio, none of which are an easy drive to Athens. Even Columbus, you're asking people who work to drive 150 miles or so to catch a weekday game. I know there's a cadre of fans like you in Athens, but you don't build a thriving athletic program on the paid attendance that Athens County denizens can provide.

72 Miles is less than 75 (FYI). The fact as presented was 75 Miles or more, not 75 or less.

Could have sold you that same GA ticket for $5. Son's birthday this past Saturday.

Thanks Alan. I'll keep you in mind for future games.

More importantly, thanks to BTC for the remedial lesson on numbers sense.

So basically I could have bought single games that were cheaper than my seasons and choose which games I go to? Got it.

That's not good at all, on top of the GA seats on the other sideline that kill the value of the press box side.

I held out for a while but the weeknight games finally ended my purchasing of season tickets. I know it's all about TV but those weeknights games feature an empty stadium for all to see.

I watched the live stream for the 110 at halftime.

With timeouts, scoring ,etc. you got to see the last few minutes of the first half.

Looked like there a lot of empty seats on the student side.

Just wondering if that was the case ?
