The only thing more stubborn than his play calling is Frank’s desire to keep him employed.

Agreed! Can we leave the defense behind too!?! Allowing a 93 yard drive to let Cinci win the game! SMH

And the only thing more stubborn than that is OHIO continuing to allow Frank to go out on his own terms. Can't be 90 and continue to coach D-1 football.

I felt like our playcalling was 75% solid today. I liked the way our running game looked and how we attacked their defense. Unfortunately, the 25% of the bad was enough to kill us. Red zone offense was our strength last year and it was predicated on Rourke's ability to run the option. Simple as that. Without his unique talent of running the option we probably go 6-6 last year.

And for some reason this year we've decided to scale the options back. It doesn't make much sense to me considering Rourke's scrambling ability and three solid running backs.

Had a birds eye view of the play calling the last minutes of the game. Was sitting on the 10 yard line where OU was going in! 5th row, man those seats sucked! A couple of observations: the killer play was 2nd and goal from the one. QB under center which we have seen maybe ,01% of the time with FS and Co. AJ is standing on the 8-9 yard line with NO LEAD BLOCKER like we see 99.99% of the time. I say to myself just sneak it 3 times and score? Nope, instead we surprise nobody and give it to our faithful AJUTM and with the hand off at the 8 the play is blown up at the 5. Just a plain genius, predictable stupid play call. Next play two receivers on the side of the field I am sitting on. Papi goes to the sideline and is covered royally while Meyer is HELD big time and cannot get a sniff of open. OBVIOUS HOLD BUT NO CALL. QB throws an INT.

Lesson learned: we needed one play like UC did from the one or two after the turnover...QB under center three guys in backfield behind him and get an O-line surge and push from the backs for three yards. You just gotta be able to get a yard with three under center snaps.

Bottom line is we did not show up to play a whole game of football. Definitely 30, maybe 45 but not 60.

Let’s face it-when it comes to playcalling Solich/Albin is no Doug Pederson, that’s for sure.

I haven't been on the fire anybody bandwagon.

But if we start the UMass game with Anybody UTM, Albin should be sent packing. Once again, the first two or three series were UTM on first down, UTM on second down, pass on third down. Predictable as hell. When we starting mixing it up ... including putting Rourke into routes ... that's when the offense started to gel. I think it flustered Cincy into committing stupid penalties (aided of course by the inept MAC refs). Then the second half it was back to UTM, UTM, pass and Cincy got back into the game. This is the 21st Century, but Tim is stuck in the days when football fields had squares and they ran the ball 99% of the time.

Glad I'm not the only one to see the OBVIOUS HOLD on Meyer prior to Rourke's throw.

Bobcat, normally I try not to rag on officials. But I was no more than 50 feet from the play which was coming right at me...it was OBVIOUS and the official was right on the goal line 10 feet away from the hold. I have a feeling he thought the ball was going to Papi and wasn't even looking at the second receiver. Either way, he blew it! I couldn't tell if these were MAC refs but as I said in another post, they were BAD and I hope to never see them again!

Well let’s wait until after the UMass game.

But when we win it will still be the....they stink and we should have beaten them anyway.

Everybody in the MAC is better.

Let’s fire Solich.

We will never win the MAC...waaa...waaa...waaa.

Billy, come on, obviously on that play the execution could have been better. On the other hand, the play calling from the one foot line handing off 8 yards deep could have been better too.

Yeah because having an I back at 7-8 yards is so totally unheard of. The play is simply a matter of a hat on a hat and execution, we failed to execute. Our QB was 12 of 27, with a poor decision, yet everyone wants to fire coaches.

Cats played hard, that is progress, time to regroup, this game means nothing in the grand scheme of things, and those expected this team to be sitting 3-0 we’re basing that on irrational feelings.

What the hell folks? UC scores with 3 minutes to go to take the lead in the game. Ohio responds, gets the ball and drives the ball to the 2 for a chance to win the game in the last minute in a road game? Everyone rooting for Ohio wants the win. A 21 year old kid makes a poor decision on a throw, and its jettison the coaching staff, OC and DC.

I don't really get it?

I was at the game October 10, 1981 - Result 19-9 UC, no chance to win the game

I was at the game today - Result 34-30 UC, chance to win in the last minute

I will take the program we see today as opposed to the football I seen in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's for sure!

There is obviously a split between two factions of bobcat fans, the moral victory people (MVP’s) and the next level people (NLP’s). The MVP’s didn’t care about losing a lead and a game that we should have one. They don’t care about the poor play calling, poor tackling and poor coverage year after year. They don’t care about potentially finishing fourth in the east when we were picked to win the MAC because we have one the MAC East 4 times in 14 years.

Maybe Cincinnati is a good team this year. 4-0. I will repeat, Ohio was one play from winning the game! I am sure Fickle and staff made some adjustments at halftime. I actually noticed in the passing game UC went to the tight end much more in the second half. Do you remember the fumble and short field and a UC score almost immediately?

Team Stats

Ohio - 412 Cincinnati - 424

Passing Yards

178 274

Rushing Yards

234 150

Turnovers

2 1

Time of Poss.

35:22 24:38

Looks like to me it was a hell of a game. Pretty even. If you would ask me if Ohio holds UC to no offense or points at all, I say probably not. We were one play away from winning the game. Was I disappointed losing the game? Damn right! Nobody believes in moral victory's in my crowd, but to abort the season and make the comment Ohio will finish fourth just because of blowing a lead and losing yesterday is insane.

I was at the Miami game at Oxford in 2012, and the only thing Tettleton could not do was throw an interception and that is exactly what he did. Same thing today. Ohio had a great chance of winning if Rourke does not throw the pick, even on 4th and goal. These kids sometimes make a mistake, and it is not always on the coaching that loses the game.

I have probably seen as many OU games as anyone. Also have seen my share of blown leads by OU in that time span. Not football related, but I witnessed Ohio versus Ohio State NIT game at The Convocation Center in 1986 and we controlled the whole game but eventually fell 65-62. I am still mad about it. I have witnessed some big wins as well. DePaul at The Convo in 1983 and Michigan in the NCAA at Nashville in 2012. Pitt, Illinois, Kentucky and Penn State in football. Those were great days! Yesterday should have been too, but a kid made a poor decision and our receiver was tripped up with no call.

I am curious to know where our athletic budget, more specifically football, falls in comparison to Cincinnati or Virginia? Knowing what I know, I would bet it is on the slim side to the competition. I do not know what having money in your football budget does for winning programs, but it must help!

Regarding next level, it may be a good idea to recruit people to come out to Peden and fill the place! Until the fickle fans can say "screw Ohio State" the program never goes to the next level!!

There’s no such thing as a moral victory.

There’s another group of people. Those that know they can’t do much about poor tackling and poor coaching. All they can do is point it out and hope it improves.

The Others can also look at a loss and find at least one positive thing like great kicking...improved line play....somewhat improved defense....and outplaying a team for one half that is probably the best team we’ll play all year.

I don't know where to start on some of these comments. I was in the first row at the 10 yard line area as well. BTW - my fan experience started by a fellow OHIO Fan threatening to kick my ass if I didn't sit down? Thank God I moved over to the next section and the players parents understood passion and getting in to the game. We have some real gems that attend games and I don't know why the come. Stay home.

Billy seems to know everything. The game matters to the fans that spend $400 for the bash and tickets to watch their Alma Mater take one from UC. It's called participation, passion and entertainment.

Cat28 - we seem to be the same age and witnessed many of the same heartbreaks and victories but come on man. Was our halftime adjustment to run the sphincter cover 2 and prevent a win? 77 yard 3rd Q TD from a QB with a below average arm is a joke. CB got beat - I get it. Not Burrows problem.

I think what most are referencing is NOT putting our young man in a situation to throw a goal line pass on a short field. If they stop 3 QB sneaks then hats off.

This one hurt for me. Been wanting a shot a UC forever. Up 21-0 and lose? No.
Sorry but I'm not taking that as OK.

I'm a Bobcat for life and it's on the UMass. We need to fix some things to be ready for conference play because it will not be any easier given how some of our competition is playing.
