The first half of that game was easily the weirdest half of football I've ever seen. You could throw out half the weird stuff and it would still be one of the weirdest. UVA at one point had run four drives: one three-and-out, and THREE single-play touchdown drives wherein they were averaging about 50 yards a play.
Then it's 35-7 with less than 3 minutes left to go in the half and Virginia has the ball, you're just hoping it doesn't go to 42-7 before the half. Flash forward about 30 seconds of game time later, and thanks to a huge turnover, a couple Rourke bombs, and a kickoff that bounced off the receiving team's face, and it's 35-21. Super weird.
Ohio has a chance to be good still, they have to get better. Winning the MAC remains an achievable goal. I did like how they kept fighting and didn't start pointing fingers at each other or get down on themselves. It didn't work out today but if they keep fighting like that, it will pay off eventually.
Cats 22, your first sentence has just stuck in my head because I thought the same thing as I turned over at halftime to see BYU beat Wisconsin and hear their coach Kilani Sitake talk about his team's upset. He said the team is essentially the same 4 win team from last year. He just had a year to get them to believe in their abilities. He said if you go through life without faith in big things and small, life will be pretty pathetic. He said he finally convinced his team they didn't need to get pushed around anymore and he reminded them again about all of this at halftime. If there is anyway Coach Solich could bring him in for motivational after practice talk (in the off chance BYU has an off week,) it certainly couldn't hurt.
As bad as our defense was in the first half, the offensive line was even worse--getting bull rushed every play. In the second half, it was as if the Bobcats actually believed they could win against a Power 5 team. Nathan Rourke and Papi White are true talents and when they are allowed to ply their craft, it is a thing of beauty. It makes the rest of the team play harder and become the players they know they can be. One of the craziest games, I have ever seen. Let's hope that's the last of the Jekyll and Hyde craziness.
