With Boise St. and San Diego State they will be borderline "power" but (no offense to) Texas State...that won't impress the sports world. If they get Memphis, that might help. They have had some really good seasons even while living in the geographic shadow of Ole Miss and Arkansas.
Texas State was the last resort, but not completely without benefits.
-Conference gets a footprint in Texas for recruiting, which is something both Colorado State and Boise State desperately wanted.
-San Marcos sits right between Austin and San Antonio, both Top 10 in US Population at the moment. If you haven't driven down I-35 in Texas lately, Austin and San Antonio are on the verge of their own metroplex that rivals Dallas/Ft. Worth. It's almost one giant suburb at this point.
-Texas State could possibly take a lesser share for the first couple of years just to get in the league, which would make others already in the league happy.
They've thrown multiple offers at Memphis and the travel just simply doesn't work. A basketball conference with Gonzaga, Memphis and SDSU would be awesome though.
