Bummer for the Bobcat fans who were hoping Ohio would make another appearance at a venue that's easily driveable for most people living in Ohio. Closest venue geographically would now be Nashville?

Another wake-up call for MAC leadership, although we all have to wonder if they ever will wake up.

I ask this seriously... what do you think they should do differently?

Our bowls are in hard to reach locations to fill TV slots because there aren't enough fans to fill the stands and buy hotel rooms. I don't think that's the MAC office's fault.

Ending the Detroit Bowl isn't the MAC office's fault.

It's just another wake-up call for MAC leadership as if to say, "You think you can just keep doing what you've been doing and get by?"

It's not hard to picture an FBS that doesn't have a MAC existing when we get to 2030, if nothing is done differently. Let's put it that way.

I agree, could you imagine the buzz on campus for a Dec 23rd Bowl game! That would be such an enormous boost for the city and University!

Is that really any worse than Ohio High School Football finals in Canton in below freezing weather in December?

And if you pit the MAC against conferences in the south and play there than you have a no fee place to play with only a little disadvantage to the MAC for always being the visiting team. Hey, put them in the home team locker room!

I agree, the OHSAA should move the games to a domed stadium! Would be much better for the players and the fans.

The Music City Bowl is tied in to SEC vs BigTen

Until the new Titans dome is finished, sitting outside next to the Cumberland River is iffy; late December weather can be a real challenge anyway. Like hypothermia if it's windy. (2008, 2012)

Bowls need to be further south or inside. Maybe when the new Browns dome is finished, that could be an option for a MAC vs somebody thing.

Always wondered when bowl games were going to go the way of the dodo bird. Appears it's no longer a profitable venture for ESPN. Combine that with schools opting out of bowl games, it's a smart maneuver on their part and still can get to 6 wins and potentially be eligible.

I do wonder when schools will go schedule exhibitions on its own. Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to a doubleheader or tripleheader day of football at a site if they could ever figure it out. Put it at one cost, bands rotate into the same section like March Madness, and let's see how many people would be willing to go watch a day of football like most people do in SE Ohio in tournament time at the Convo.

That said, if MAC wants guaranteed slots moving forward, they're gonna need to cut deals now. Otherwise, as I have said before and will say again, the finances of staying FBS are not lucrative at all in the long-term. Been counting down the days until we start losing league members due to internal "Come to Jesus" meetings that will be happening VERY soon at a few schools.

Bummer. Detroit is great. Day after Christmas was easy peasy. Closest Bowl. Sucks all the way around.

Flying J and Pilot Truck Stops were bought out by an investment corp. The very bogus Haslem bunch of Knoxville TN infamy no longer own them. They can now concentrate on screwing up an NFL franchise 500 miles away from them.

They really seem to attract the same number of eyeballs, which is even more prescient in the age of streaming but there seems to be a more blase and apathetic attitude toward them in the age of the CFP. I imagine the revenue brought in to the gates (not necessarily the tv money, at all) make it seem like more hassle than it is worth for some of these venues.
