Poulos was there as well, so the QB room is (by class):
Poulos, Winters, Vezza, Grand, Davis

Edit: looks like Pappas is back as well.
Carrying 6 QB's, at least in the past, was usually the sort of thing a staff decided to do when it didn't know who its starter was going to be (kind of like us entering 2025 with so many kickers). Maybe this is the new normal with more possible scholarships. I was hoping that Carpenter leaving, a player who you would think would be in the mix but without the established film to earn a payday, meant that the 2026 starter had become obvious to those close to the situation.

That is a good theory. I do note we also had six last year, perhaps because there was at least some concern that Navarro's injury that required him to miss spring would linger into fall.

I realized that as well. That's part of the reason I wonder if this is more normal now but am too lazy to go around looking at all the rosters in the FBS when there are teams that will still add quarterbacks in the coming months.

I thought it just saw that we signed another HS QB from western NY. 6'4 210 and can run.

He might be recruited as a TE….decent player at wherever he plays.

I am glad Brune is back buuuut...what happens with Michael Taylor? Rosa didn't come here to sit.

And interesting on Poulos.

I said it before Rosa even committed, but Brune coming back might be a worse situation than what he had last year. MTJ is extremely talented. (Though not talented to burn his rs and make him RB2). Brune is still the kind of runner we love in Athens, so he'll get his reps. Starters reps? Maybe the first few games. And I agree, though I dont know the terms of any deal, he didn't turn down Duke and Manny Diaz to come here and back-up anyone. So hopefully that lights a little fire under him, because he hasn't played much the last few years.

-Poulos is QB1 in the clubhouse.
-Vezza, I'm super excited to see him. Like a better armed Parker. I think he will be good and likely beat him out early, but those are your QB1/QB1A today.
-Hype has got immense talent. Hasn't taken game snaps since his jr year of HS.
-Winters is a legend. Salute to my guy. Will likely be the last line of five year guys. I'd love to see him all of a sudden start making it rain out there. Every spring you hear nothing but good things about this kid. And he never takes any snaps at all. CFL MVP, NFL draft-pick and an ALL-MAC guy in front of you, so that's a lot, but I'd love to see him break-out.
-Davis - I think others saw a lot more than I did, but think this is an easy redshirt.

TL/DR:
It's been years (a decade) since we had a QB competition or even an RB competition. I'm looking forward to the battles, cause it could go a lot of different ways - especially for a first year head coach.

My early money is on Vezza and Brune/Rosa splitting carries, with MTJ getting a few as well. This has always been a running team, so having three guys who can tote the rock and another power running qb... lets go.

Anyone heard an update on if Hauser has hired a new Oline coach? And also is Jordon Jones is coming back? Haven't seen that he has signed with a new school

I am also wondering about Josh Waite and Josh Johnson still being on the roster. Two experienced guys from small schools who didn't play much or at all this year. Are they still around?

Yes. Waite played in every game last year as a backup and ST starter. Johnson has yet to play in a college game at EIU or Ohio but is known as a great glue guy.

Getting a visit from Riley Palmeter, 6-5, 230 TE from Marian College. Teammate of Isaiah Street.

Based on his X, looks like we are probably adding a walk on RB transfer in Brayden Mitchum, a 5-10, 205 lb transfer from Taylor University. Redshirted at Taylor his only season. Was All-State at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy two years ago. Roster adding depth ATM.

Here is his HS Hudl:

Lists himself as WR / RB, and played DB in HS so could be a jack-of-all-trades type.

247 Sports says Jordon Jones committed to Troy.

Interesting choice.

Looks like Tim Carpenter signed with Dodge City JUCO? Maybe? He didn’t confirm himself, but he’s tagged in a photo congratulating him by what appears to be his NIL management team.

*edit*

Brune has been working out with the team as well. So he is indeed back, though no mention was made by him or others he was returning.

Good news is we have quite a few options at RB. Will be interesting to see how Hauser doles out carries.

Not OHIO player related, but Anthony Colandrea, the UNLV quarterback we played against in the Frisco Bowl has transferred to Nebraska. So if he wins the starting job, we could potentially play against him for the second game in a row.

Checking back in here since it's been a while. I think the answer to many of your questions can be resolved by looking at the abilities of the coaching staff. Between Doc Bobcat and MWDST pontificating daily on the abilities of the players you should demand more of the professionals getting paid to coach kids.
Already MWDST is stating the First year HC pass. Last year with Smith was a a first year HC.
Seem the only people at OU that get promoted are coaches and not players. I'm not wrong even though you may not like me stating the truth. Shake and Bake.
Oh talking about development...with 6 BQ's on the roster in the past how is it the coaches couldn't develop one to be the next starting QB? I know your legend Navarro isn't allowed to come back for a 9th year but really if he were that good he would have been recruited to a bigger better program a few years back?

He's not transferring to sit behind a true sophomore (Lateef) who wasn't great down the stretch. He'll bounce again after the spring if not the starter; makes no sense to stay & hold a clipboard.

You managed to type out so much and yet say absolutely nothing.

Nothing makes any sense so it's hard to address your rambling specifically, but...

...it seems like you're under the impression that players don't get "promoted" or "developed"? LOL. You're specifically mad at Vezza? Good lord man. Go outside. It's February. A starter hasn't been named. Did you just get back from your protest in Bloomington for bringing in Mendoza? Did you make a stop to cry outside the Horseshoe because Julian Sayin came from Alabama and jumped Lincoln Kienholz? This was a bizarre exchange. One of the worst attempts I've ever seen. For that you get a gold star for trying.

Now back on earth, every QB we've had in recent memory was "promoted" from back-up and developed here. Including Top 5 All-Time Passer Parker Navarro. Unless Matt Vezza is named starter, again its February and they have yet to even hold a single scrimmage, it seems likely that the current leader in the clubhouse is - who I said would start at Nebraska - Poulus. But hold tight - he's also a transfer. Are you upset Winters isn't starting? Me too man. Love the kid. Literally yesterday, I said I'd love nothing more than if he was the best option. Though that doesn't matter remotely, as we've seen the Heisman trophy winner was a transfer. And again, tremendously bizarre stance from you.

Are you enraged by our recent WR success? You're seething mad at Wigs for transferring in and being one of our best WR's of all-time, because he wasn't initially recruited here? You sit up at night stewing at the thought of Coleman Owen being #1 All-Time in Season Receiving Yards?

Or is it RB? You're incensed at the thought of Rosa? Again, it's February. And again - it's college football. 10,500+ players entered the portal. Regardless, Brune is back. Sieh dominated. Sieh was developed and "promoted" as you put it. Brune the same.

Hard to find any other point to your incoherent rambling, but please come back when you've got something intelligent to say and the roast will continue. However, if that's the criteria, I fear we won't be seeing you again.

You’re trying way too hard to play coach and impress everyone.
I can tell you spent a lot of time putting that response together. I’d say I was enlightened, but the truth is I don’t have strong opinions about most of the players you’re dissecting — especially the ones who aren’t even Bobcats. I’m not upset about who’s starting or not starting either. So no, I’m not impressed. You completely missed the point — which, frankly, doesn’t surprise me.
My issue isn’t with individual players. It’s with your nonstop commentary about who should stay, who should go, who’s “portal material,” who’s good, who isn’t, and who needs a fire lit under them. There are plenty of legitimate reasons someone might want to leave the Bobcats program. And let’s not pretend the last two years — including the coaching staff’s ethical and moral conduct — wouldn’t be reason enough for someone to move on. Of course, you’re entitled to defend them.
You spend all your energy critiquing players when the coaching staff — the ones calling the plays and responsible for development — should be held to a much higher standard. They’re in charge. If you want to evaluate performance, start there.
I’m simply asking you — though I doubt you will — to stop blaming the players and predicting they’ll end up in entry-level jobs or dropping down to JUCO or wherever, especially when you’re so confident in your talent evaluations.
On the bright side, at least OhioCatFan thinks you’re courageous. Maybe the two of you can grab DP Dough and celebrate that.

Yea I hear you. I come on this board and it is dominated by all these folks giving their opinion on this game or that game, or who should be starting or what happened last game and what they think we should do differently, or asking questions of others and their thoughts. I'm almost afraid to go on the recruiting thread for fear it will just be people giving their thoughts on a recruit.

I mean this is a message board where people can log on and give their thoughts, ask questions and have back and forth about OUr sports' teams and games and then what do I find instead....people logging on and giving their thoughts, asking questions and having back and forth about Our sports' teams and games. Go figure.

RickyBobby: This second post actually made sense. I really had no idea what you were trying to say in the first one. Now that I understand your point, I agree with you in a general way. Not specifically focus on any one person, and I think M.D.W.S.T often has good points, I do agree that some folks here spend too much time being shadow coaches, like a UK shadow government.
