Glad we could find and develop another one for them. NOT!

A good example of the “not receiving anything in return from an organization flushed with cash” issue.

Comments from their shi%&y fans shows anger at his signing. Trashing him for being from OU. It is pathetic how they aren't recognizing that their own staff is unable to recruit and develop talent and has to shop around.

Lean in…

Come to the bricks of Athens, we’ll develop you in two years. Then you’ll be the coveted prospect you always thought you were headed for FBS royalty.

We’ve got room, talent pool. And a hungry fan base.

To the upper tier it won’t matter, but to those tweenr athletes, high school guys feeling like P5 rosters filled up without them - you can PLAY, get reps, while the eyes of Ohio State are on you, while you’re winning rings down the road. Portal guys feeling like youre tired of grinding just to ride the bench, need to showcase your talent…

If Chase ends up at OSU, I’ll probably lose my lunch though lol

Taking it a step further, the OSU recruiting staff should be suggesting to guys they like, but not right now, that we develop them well.

Has anyone seen any comparisons of portal numbers vs. other MAC teams? Comparing portal numbers to Iowa State seems silly since many of the players are looking to get a chance at PSU. The same with other schools who lost coaches. What is typical for a MAC (or even CUSA or SBC) school and how do the Cats compare. The team will lost good players every year, is there a good comparison to similar schools?

It seems like that every year with the portal.

We have a running back from UConn visiting next week.

He and Taylor would make a decent duo.

I'm assuming we're taking this week to schedule possible visits from players for next week. We know what the positions of need are at this point.

Leaders for Chase Hendricks appear to be California and Purdue, as he is visiting both.
I hope they both pay well, because those are two ugly choices looking at next years schedule. Purdue might win 2-4 games, Cal 4 or 5 with god awful travel.
This is true. If he ends up at either of these he is admitting he does not care about winning. He cares only about money. He has earned it but dude, these teams are awful.

Those teams aren't exactly loaded with cash, when compared to the other teams who expressed interest in him.

I expressed frustration Duncan Brune because his decision seemed dumb not only for OU, but for him. I have no frustration with Hendricks. He's done the winning thing. Now he can go get paid. If he happens to win there too, frankly, it's a bonus. (Nobody's paying Hendricks money to Brune.)

Dellenbach is in the portal. Kinda knew this was coming. Rough season, but thought he improved as the season went on, and hope he has a great career.

I knew I was harsh on him last year. It wasn't all on him or Peacock.

I had the feeling we're gonna have to get a new Kicker anyway.

Kid was pretty terrible, and is now on to his 3rd school in 3 years. As a kicker.

Clicks and likes and the appearance of unlimited NIL funds everywhere have just destroyed these kids ability to think critically and work to get better.

To be fair, neither the position coach nor the head coach who recruited him are still here.

That is indeed fair, and the writing was on the wall, but it's not like he is a position player, or was any good. I would be shocked if he ended up anywhere other than the FCS or D2. At least he was missing kicks in D1.

Wasn't it like 70% of portal kickers now work at the dining hall? Every one of these kids is convinced they're going to be offered $50K to go to Texas, when in reality their parents are gonna be paying for them to play at Marietta.

You ain't wrong, MDWST. Sad but true especially considering the 35% placement rate for kickers.

BTW...it may have been posted already but this thread is 10 deep. Is a player allowed to return to his previous team if the mighty portal is unkind?

Dangerous game to play, but yes a player can return - if his spot wasn't already filled by one of the other 4,000 guys in the portal. Or if you burned that bridge with your coaches.

This a great point.

As an interesting side note, Gianni Spetic is going to Texas. There are indeed winners and losers in the portal.

A few years ago, we lost three promising receivers. One did well at IU, another kept the same path basically at UCF and ended up in a NFL camp, and another ended up in Ypsilanti and DNP.

Plenty of players who hit the portal are told not to come back. And it is the coach burning the bridge.

I see Aidan Johnson posting that he was offered by Fordham and Towson. What am I missing here? From OU to Fordham or Towson? Unless he hopes he plays more there and then turns that into another bigger D-1 move in his senior year? I have no clue what these guys are thinking anymore. I would have thought Aidan would be counted on along the line next year.
