I'd be really surprised if Marshall was added. If so it would have to be a road game since they're already coming to Athens for 2027. Either Ohio or Marshall are going to have to bite the bullet and play a 5 home game schedule one of these years, which I imagine neither wants to do.
The new PAC 12 is going to have to schedule 5 non-conference games since they'll only 7 in conference and right now there is a lot of flexibility on their end. In theory you'd think Ohio could have easily negotiated some 1-1s or even 2-1s for someone like Boise if they waited. I'm not sure what the rush was to add a second FCS game. The relationship with Texas State is already there. Make it an annual Battle of the Bobcats. They're currently playing 3 home non-conference games in 2026 and 1 away.
I'm kinda 50/50 about scheduling 2 FCS teams in 2026.
On one hand, we get a break in quality opponents. It should be easier for us to manage, with the only tough test being the opener at Nebraska. The game at South Alabama could go either way. We don't know how good the Jaguars will be.
On the other hand, I would've liked for the Bobcats to challenge themselves. Not another Rutgers/WVU/Ohio State gauntlet, but something that could test us. The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns were available. Texas State, Marshall maybe as part of agreements with them?
