I guess it depends on what your version of skinny is, but I've seen AJ Clayton, and I don't view him as "skinny" right now. Give him a year of the offseason program and I think he'll be even less "skinny".
Speaking only for myself, I don't care how big our "bigs" are as long as they can play. I know it's on a different talent level, but in case anyone forgot, Villanova won the National Championship twice playing primarily three guards, and two 3's or a stretch 4. They had only one guy that really played a lot that was taller than 6-7. Point is, the obsession about needing really big guys seems strange to me, when there are several guys 6'7" to 6'8" that can play on this roster, and when Ohio has half a dozen guards/wings that either are, or look to be, very talented.
Hey OU Country, Mr. Bigs here. As you know, I've been beating the "height and length" drum for more decades than I can even remember. But you brought up an interesting point in shining the light on Villanova, which gives me an opportunity to future clarify my obsession with bigs. Nova is never particular tall. But they're athletic, and here's the key--they have one or two front-courters who play above the rim. Remember our games against Nova and Creighton? I do believe we got hurt by both teams due to that factor, an above-the-rim playing forward, their point guards notwithstanding.
I'm clamoring for a rim-protecting big because our forwards don't play above the rim. That's no slight on them; that's just who they are. The last one we had who had a huge impact that way, who had that type of explosion and was an all-MAC player, probably was Gary Trent, right? Maybe Brandon Hunter? Jon Smith?
I just think it's nearly impossible to get to the Big Dance's Final 8 without a frontcourt baller like that. Because the teams we face as we go deeper into that journey are gonna have at least one uber-athletic above-the-rim playing forward or a post player with length who demands a double-team. Or worse yet, both!!!
