He goes to my alma mater so I'm a little biased but I've seen him the past 3 years. Absolutely a late bloomer who got to show his stuff only really in the summers and late in his senior season when the two big guys went down and the offense was forced to go through him and play at a faster pace. He truly carried that team and was outstanding. Good athlete, shoots well. Always felt like he was being underrated. I'm shocked he only has the one D2 offer because he is definite MAC caliber. Plus, never underestimate the local kid who gets an opportunity to shine and makes the most of it, a la Jordan Dartis.
Oh, don't get me wrong - if the staff thinks he's worth it, and he performs to their expectations, I don't give a hoot about how many offers he has when he signs with Ohio. But lots of folks on here whined endlessly about Saul recruits that fit this description, and suddenly....Crickets....
If we did not unload, Garreri, butler and dozier, we would have had a D2 team. It’s ok to sign someone without offers if you are a good talent evaluator, Saul unfortunately was not good at that. We are stuck with about 4 D2 schollies, it would be 5 if a certain player did not enter the transfer portal.
When a player graduates from Walsh, are they allowed to say...

"life's been good to me so far"

I like this kid. He is a very sound guard. He should be able to fit in Boals vision. He just scored 62 in an all star game, his shot is pure. He is gutsy as well, he guarded 6’8” and 6’9” players during his AaU tenure. McDay, Roderick and Safford can all shoot the rock and they really don’t force anything. Safford is only 6’3” which is short for a two guard. Safford does have a borderline high dribble and he will need to work on a quicker release, but he looks like a good one.

Nick Kellogg was also 6’3”. Maybe we can get lucky again.

6'3" is a perfectly fine size for a colleg shooting guard.

The Toronto Raptors ofteb play Kyle Lowry and Fred Van Vleet on the floor together, for crying out loud.

I believe that it is fine as well, I think if he were 6’5” he would have more offers

Walt Offutt was 6'3 and he played the 3 most of the time.

Buffalo's starting 2 and 3 were both 6'3 this past year.

Kent State won the MAC in 2017 with wings who were 6'1 and 6'3.

The MAC has traditionally been won by skill over size.

Wonder if Miles Brown took the last guard scholarship and now there is no spot for Safford. Boals wants to play 4 guard/wings so I guess he could take a 5th in the same class but I'd be surprised. As others have said the need now is glaringly for bigs.

Sounds like he's not in the mix, at least at this point. Maybe Ohio and/or Safford are still keeping their options open. The Bobcats need big guys and could use some guys with a little more experience to fill out the roster if possible but if that doesn't materialize, maybe Safford could still be a possibility.

Don’t we still have 2 more scholarships left? I could be wrong but Safford can still commit and then we get our big

I believe we still have three left, I hope one of those is given to Safford.

The recruiting grid in the forum threads shows three scholarships remaining. While its certainly possible, I would think they'd want to consider balancing the classes a little. And, with the only bigs on scholarship being BVP, and the yet to be well tested Springs and McMurray, I would think two of the three at the very least need to be big guys.

From what I can piece together, Safford is heading in a different direction.

Yes, there's three scholarships left, but it's not likely Ohio will use them all this year, especially not all on freshmen and probably not another another freshman wing player. If it comes down to the end of recruiting and Ohio's situation changes, maybe Safford could be in the mix again.

If there's a scholarship open this season, and it seems likely there will be, I'd bet Michael Brown might get it for one season as a preferred walk-on.

Safford confirms it himself. It's Wofford.

No surprise to Wofford with Roderick and Price in the mix. We are set at the wing position. Good luck to Morgan. Can't wait to find out which bigs Boals is going to wrap up in the next week or so.

And also Miles Brown and his brother. And Jordy if he gets his strength back, which I expect he will. Stafford's decision doesnt surprise me at all due to the number of guards/wings we now have. Plus, Wofford is an excellent program and a heckuva nice place.
