Already being discussed in Portal page, but thought it deserved its own thread on Recruiting board.

-----

While Shereef is a 6'0 PG, and we already have Hunter, I understand the immediate expectation of "backup PG". And that might be exactly true. But I'm also not discounting the possibility that he either starts alongside Hunter, or even as a bench guy gets significant (15-22) minutes per game.

Whether he's a backup or rotational guy, as a PG, and given this teams weaknesses/struggles - I'm not worried about his scoring average. What I want to see is a) His ability to run the offense and create open shots for others (Ast per 40) b) His ability not to turn it over (Ast:TO) c) His defense - something we SEVERELY lack, something he'll understand from playing at Creighton and against Big East every night, and one of his stated positives (DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HOW IMPORTANT OF A DIFFERENCE THIS COULD MAKE) (Def Rating) and lastly d) His ability to rebound.

He's athletic enough that at the MAC level I think he can drive and create his own shot when needed as well.

We still need some freaking size to be sure, but I like the add nonetheless.

Welcome to Athens Reef!

Shereef spent 4 years at Creighton, with a medical redshirt his 3rd year, so he's used 3 years of eligibility. With his COVID year he could have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining at Ohio.

Was an honor roll student.

Also was Nebraska Gatorade PoY as a Sr in HS before signing with Creighton.

Those credentials sound good to me, both athletically and academically. If you'll note, Boals does not sign players with questionable academics or players that might have deportment problems.

I really like this add because good guards win in March.

Now, that said, someone that can really play at the 4/5 spot would be pretty nice to add as well.

Yes it would.

Myles Foster…come on down. His trajectory at Monmouth stands out. Just seems like a perfect fit.

You picked up on my warning about next season's game vs Muskingum, I see.

This is a good add. It seems like Shareef was still recovering from his injury this year yet still played a role for Creighton off the bench this year. With his continued rehab he's going to play a big role for us this season and looks like our starting PG in two years.

I agree with this.

Looking at the recruiting grid makes me wonder if Boals would consider a Frosh big after landing a portal big to balance the classes a bit?

Mitchell played against Ohio in the big dance 3 years ago and held Preston to single digit points. Got to like the Creighton culture on the bench this fall.

A game in which he played a total of 10 minutes. He wasn't the one stopping Preston.

I'd love to see a grid with NIL money listed.
