I'm very excited and hopeful about this kid. Three years of eligibility left, Seems like he can play in the post very well and this guy can DUNK! Adds some depth to our forwards this coming year. Will be plenty of young talent in Athens next year.

Seems like a good kid. Great pedigree from Hargrave and 4-star recruit, going to Louisville etc. Not a ton of college production but we know bigs can take some time, plus he enrolled a year early just like AJ Clayton so he's still young.

6'11 size and length, check.
Can shoot the 3, check.
Lots of positives to work with here.

Feels like he could slide into BVP's vacated starting PF spot next to DW3 next year and then possibly transition to starting C after that. Question I have is, can he guard enough on the perimeter against 6'6 MAC PFs or will his defense (even though he can shoot it on offense) limit him to the 5 only?

Regardless, I think this is a really good get for Boals and staff.

P.S. could do without the "Roll Bobbies". What sorority intramural team is he referring to? Bobbies....smh.

If we get a 10 ppg, 5 apg point guard this team will be just fine.

The well wishes from Louisville fans on his Twitter show we are getting a good dude with some skills -- he can be out Skogman.

Pardon the pun, but this looks like a big deal to me!

I don’t know about Boals, but a good Big Man was the top of my needs list.

YOU can do without it but if you search Twitter for hashtag rollbobbies you will get a ton of results from Ohio Managers to Ohio football, baseball, equipment, and track among others. Not quite as ubiquitous as #BleedGreen but seems to be plenty prevalent.

Is that the brain child of the same marketing geniuses who pushed the Attack Cat over the paw and get their pants in a wad if somebody says "Ohio U" instead of Ohio?

Next they'll tell us Bobbies is more PC and child friendly so we need to move in that direction.

If we need a unique marketing hashtag how about #GoBobcats or #WeAreOhio or...

Fair points, but I've seen "Roll Bobbies" stick a lot more among the common student population now. Admittedly I use it on the O-Zone Instagram from time to time.

The more I think about it, I view this signing as what the "upside" of the domino effects of the transfer portal will look like going forward.

I don't think we get a transfer like Wiznitzer in years past. Yes, we've got "low-performing" transfers from high majors in the past, but never a 6-11 big who was a 4-star recruit who is still only 20 (still time to develop)

In the past, I think Wiznitzer would stay at Louisville another year, probably would've redshirted and/or not come out of high school a year early AND if he did transfer he probably ends up at another high major. The dynamics of college hoops have radically changed, but I still believe Ohio can field some talented and competitive teams.

In two roster years at OHIO he averaged .2 ppg, .6 boards, .1 assist

There are 4 star guys, and then there are 4 star guys. Wiznitzer sounds remarkably like another 4 star big man recruit that some may be familiar with. Had a number of big time offers, including OSU. Went to a national championship contender two years ago and his butt has been glued to the bench ever since. The only difference between Wiz and Zach Loveday at Baylor is that Loveday has not entered the portal. Loveday is originally from Gallipolis.

4 star in some ways is the great dividing line. Is the 4 star kid closer to being a 5 star, or a 3 star? In both these cases it appears to be the latter.

Loveday, wow - it feels like this kid graduated in 1994. COVID really did a number on these last few years.

He had offers from a couple blue bloods in addition to *everywhere* else.

Not sure Ohio would even be on his list should he enter the portal, but I might start tweeting Roll Bobbies ;) at him several times a day just in case.

I've watched some of his old Youtube footage from like 2018 lately. Even back then he was a 6'11 wide body. And even back then, his footwork and low post moves are very very polished. He gets great position to receive the entry pass, he uses his mass to get a good spot in the middle of the lane, he has a threatening hook shot with either hand, and because of that, he can get defenders to bite on a hook fake and go up and under. But he's very much a center. I don't know that I see a BVP or Carter who can take someone off the dribble from the arc, so I don't know that there would be many packages where he and Wilson are on the floor together. It's a really good pickup nonetheless.

3 years for Gabe, right? So the Gabe/DWIII dilemma won't pertain to Gabe's last 2 seasons in Athens.

Shouldn't be much of a dilemma.

Gabe - C
DW3 - PF

When Carter/IJ come in... rotate.

Instead of getting bullied by every teams C over 6'6" lets have that strong inside/outside game for the first time since Leon.

How many stretch 5's are there in the MAC?

Let all these guards run through the trees, and while they scoop up all the misses.

It will be fun this year for Boals to have some different looks. With DW3 and Wiz inside together you can have Hadaway/Clayton at the 3 shooting from deep or you can take Wiz and DW3 out entirely and go with a lineup with Hunter, Baker, AJ Brown, Hadaway/Clayton and any one of Rod/Miles/EJ4/Adelodun and just pressure and run over guys. Should be fun.

Is Jaylin Hunter that PG?

Assuming everyone stays healthy, and stays for the whole season, I agree with this. Recent history suggests that's unlikely, but I hope that isn't the case.

Lots of talent depth on paper. Can't wait to see how this team comes together!

I have a feeling Hunter will be that point guard EASILY. And I typed that a while ago before DeVon Baker joined our team and Frazier was still here. With Baker we're getting a dude who averaged 6 ppg at Tulane but 15 ppg at UNC-Asheville for 3 years.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've been a little out of the loop since the season ended, so I was looking for a little updated perspective from the 'revisit'.

I didn't know much about Baker at all, but it seems safe to think that he and Hunter will be solid MAC guards capable of being both the 1 and the 2 depending on what is necessary game by game.

It would be my hope that this team, with the kind of depth it appears to have, could play at a little higher tempo, and apply a little more pressure defensively. Time will tell.

I'm hoping to poke my head inside The Convo on Saturday for the first time since February. Maybe we'll get to see a little workout/open gym action.
