I love the idea of going for preferred walk-ons. That is something you do to build a program up for sustained success.

Looks like Ben is Chad's son. Can't wait to see what this kid can do. Seems like a hard and motivated worker and I'm confident he can potentially earn a scholarship.

I'm confused as to when he's on the roster. Immediately? Next fall? Is he still a walk-on, or is he a scholarship player now?

He is a preferred walk on for next year, which means that he is guaranteed a spot on the roster and Boals wants him on the roster, BUT there is no scholarship for him. I was thinking if McDay doesn't return next year Estis could receive his scholarship

I look at this kid as Tommy 2.0...as in SCHMOCK! They are about the same size and look to have similar games. I am forever grateful for what Tommy Schmock has done for us this year. Losing Preston hurt but Tommy coming in and giving us QUALITY minutes and just plain being a cool and chill yet ferocious defender has been a key to our 17-3 start.

I have no doubt this kid will be on full scholarship down the road and contributing before he graduates. It's in his DNA. Was lucky enough to be in school to watch his father play. Chad Estis is truly one of the most remarkable stories in Ohio hoops history.

Chad was a huge piece in the early 90's glory days of Ohio hoops. Trent, Boals, Terry, Ford. Wish I got to experience it.

Not sure it is any secret that Boals & Chad Estis are good friends. Did Ben have any interest or offers from other schools? Especially given the guard talent we have presently and coming, I am not sure I am on board with the expectation he will be on scholarship or get much playing time. Don't get me wrong though, I do love the addition and the general idea behind preferred walk-ons.

Maybe we can get a package deal with his dad. Chad could get the AD squared away and a legit ticket sales op set up.

I'm not saying he'll be putting up 10 Points and 4 assists per game his senior year. I just believe that he will eventually contribute in a meaningful way before his career is over. I guess we won't know until five years from now. Let's revisit it then. The bloodline is a good one and judging from his social media and what others say about him, he's got the skill and intangibles to compete at this level.

Totally agree about the idea behind preferred walk-ons. Love it.

I could be wrong but I’m thinking it might have been Charlie and Chad Gill. I’m sure someone knows for sure.

Pete (40’s) and Todd (early70’s) Lalich Pete is in OU Hall of Fame. Todd transferred in from Florida or FSU. He was a slick passer and fashioned himself another Pistol Pete. Hit a buzzer beater jumper to beat Toledo and put Cats in NCAAs in 1972

Ben could be in the mix for starting PG position if Sears decides to run out of town. My dark horse pick for next year.

I'd echo this statement even louder now. This could give us some added continuity.
