When was the last time we had a two-sports guy?

The dual sport basketball/football players that I could find for sure were Chet Feldman in 94, 95, 96 Thomas Stephens in 2000, 2001. I know there was another year or two that we only had like 7 players on the team and there were something like 3 football players that suited up for basketball but for the life of me I cant remember the years that happened. Nor could I find all of the rosters to compare them.
Then, in the 2007 graduating class we had Scott Mayle, he played wide receiver and was a world class long jumper for the track team qualifying for the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships in both the 2006 and 2007. he played both sports all four years.

I honestly don't think we will ever see a football/basketball dual player again since both sports have become basically year around commitments. Especially since basketball practices start around the first or second week of conference football.

Is this going to be a walk-on??

If yes, how many are we allowed to have? We already have Estis and Corna with Boals coming next year. Is Alex walk-on #4???

If no, then that's our last scholarship unless someone goes portaling.

Doesn’t Bahamas free up a schollie for next year?

-Miles and Jaylin are out, Ayden and Jesse are in.
-One scholarship from this year was not filled
-Ezuma presumably out

That's two open schollies

Shereef sounds a little cagey on what he'll do next year. That's possibly a third open scholarship.

I hope Shereef knows what next years team could be like if he stays...

I'm sure he does, but in the NCAA world we live in, I understand him going for the $$$ at a power 6 if that is what he does. It is what it is unfortunately. Would be amazing for him to stay.

Sure, my point was unless/until we lose some guys (Ezuma likely plus any others) then this is it. 2 out, 3 in.

Assuming Ezuma is out then we'd have 1 left.

I haven't seen any which combined with his brother coming is what made me think maybe this was part of the package to get Ayden by offering his brother a walkon. Would like to confirm either way.

Agreed. The Brown twins 2.0.

But if he has an offer for football, why not do that, get a scholarship and still go to school with your brother? Kind of a cool story actually.

I remember those years. Football players) Late 80's /early 90's. Jerry Leobold rings a bell. Also I think Tom Jamerson was a converted cheerleader, and played a bit, however I was very young.

Lebold only played because Larry literally had Dave Jamerson and nothing else. He had to recruit a big off the football team and it was Lebold who actually was serviceable and set picks without moving his feet.

I still say Larry's first year where he won 12 games with Jamerson in 89-90 was his greatest coaching job ever.

@steveragen those players were Keyon Ingram, Stafford Owens, TJ Wright. TJ was a top basketball prospect out of Beaumont TX in our class.

I believe he meant in college. But if memory serves me correctly,Keyon joined the basketball team to help out with practice one year when they were low on available players.

No longer listed on the roster. His previous player page is now a 404 error.
