According to Rivals he was considering Akron, James Madison, Ohio, and Providence. I believe there was an article or two posted on here before the crash that Providence had really turned up the pressure on him so it's nice and says a lot about us that we beat out a Big East school as well as Akron in this recruiting battle. Absolutely huge get for the Bobcats.

When is college basketball's early signing period?  I just want this to be official as soon as possible so that if he blows up his senior year, that nobody new can come in and swoop him up.

I think he's already blown up.  The consensus among recruiting services is that he was rated somewhere between #50 and #100 in the nation for his class.

Stevie has already put a lot of thought into the recruiting process.  His family was involved.  I don't see anyone swooping in and taking him away from Ohio.  It appears that Stevie understands that he can really further his future basketball and educational career at Ohio and in the MAC, and he knows he's got a chance to earn early minutes.

He is an excellent "get" for any mid major program.  He's an upper tier mid major recruit...these level kids are the key to MAC schools building and sustaining a winning program.  Stevie probably could have gone to a high major, but he understands his prospects are excellent at Ohio.

Great, great news indeed! Super quick is what I like to see... (Que Monroe's argument that guards need to be tall...) ;)

I'm sure some you have seen him play one time or another. With him being the same size as DJ, is Stevie's game similar? I like that we're getting a guy from All-Ohio Red. That's elite-level basketball. Now let's take the last scholarship and get a 6'9"+ big mAnZZZ.

I told you all so...But I have no proof after the crash.  Either way, another very exciting recruit coming to Athens.  Cooper, N Kellogg, Taylor in successive classes.

WOW. I already can't wait till 2010 and now I'm looking ahead to 2011 too. Imagine running a 3 guard set and having your pick of Coop/Coleman/Kellogg/Johnson/Taylor. daaaaamn! We're becoming the Yankees of the MAC.

Welcome to OHIO Stevie.

I was thinking the same thing. His contract was extended through '14-'15 and I'd say he's here at least through '12-'13. He'll lose 5 ( Coop, Coleman, Baltic, Keely, Offutt ) after that season and 5 more ( AKellogg, Johnson, Hall, Jacobs, Smith ) after '13-'14. But if he keeps the pipeline full those two years won't be too bad. So much can happen between now and then its anyone's guess but I would say in the short term he sure does look like he's commited to building a powerhouse at OHIO.

with the pick up of taylor, i believe groce has now secured the top guard in the columbus area in successive years...Kellogg in '10 and Taylor in '11.  Columbus and all of OH for that matter can be fertile recruiting grounds, as we've seen in the past.  I appreciate Groce's commitment to making in-state talent part of his recruiting classes...could not go wrong now in looking at Northland's Jordan Potts in '12...

I really don't think getting recruits indicates in any way that Groce is more inclined to stay.  Coach is going to do his job as long as he has it, and a big part of that is recruiting.  Do you guys really think he is just going to say "well...I probably won't be here for the class of 2011, so screw it."

Remember the seemingly lost decade we had at PG? This feels so much better than that.

Amazing things can happen at the PG position when you think and look outside the "Ohlone Junior College" box.
