Too bad Gahanna never played at the Convo like smaller division schools get to in the tournament.  If I'm not mistaken, the Central district sends DII teams down to Athens.

For those around Columbus, Gahanna plays Walnut Ridge today at 4pm at the fairgrounds.

Taylor - very clutch in the 4th period. Gahanna wins 47-44, and will face Northland Wednesday.

It's back-to-back district titles for Gahanna, thanks to some clutch play by OUr signee Stevie Taylor and his teammates. The Lions aren't tall, but play bigger than their size. It will be an interesting match-up in the regional semis vs. Northland this week. Here is a link to Steve Blackledge's story in the Columbus Dispatch:

And here's another game summary:

Northland gets its revenge on Gahanna Lincoln tonight, 57-52.  Taylor had 11 points and 6 rebounds.  He hit a 3 with 18 seconds to go to pull within 2, but Northland hit the free throws.

Shame they didn't get a chance in the sectional final.  Stevie's next regular season game will be in the green & white!

Stevie named second team all-Ohio.  congrats to him and congrats to former Bobcat Sonny Johnson, named D-1co-coach of the year.

Don't have the list in front of me, but was wondering what anyone knows about the 6-10 senior who made first team all-state. Dominant h.s. stud w/ little college upside? Sleeper? Big-time recruit? His size intrigues me and fits just what the dr. ordered for Ohio.

You mean Pat Forsythe from Brunswick? Who (after a quick google search by me) apparently signed with West Virginia?

If I'm Groce I'm going after Larry Nance Jr., second team All-State along with Taylor.

Or maybe we have someone better on the horizon, don't know for sure.

Mike,

I've seen Nance play many times in the Suburban League.  No doubt he is a talented kid, who probably has more growth in him.  However, isn't there a lot of similarities between Nance and Tyquane Goard?  Watching Goard play in the WV State Championship, I think he is more Dante Flenoral then Devaughn Washington.  I think Nance falls into the exact same mold and it is tough to recruit the same position with the same type of athlete.

First off, I agree that they're similar players. However, I think if what we hear from Groce that we want five guys to get up and down the court then Nance fits the bill. He might be a bit thin at the moment, but I see him as a 6-8, 230 kid down the road with great ball skills and basketball IQ. From what I see from Goard, he has limited ball skills at the time, but yes, when you can take the ball 40 feet in two bounces and three strides, that is freakishly athletic and he will improve. They might end up the same player but are at different stages now. I guess the question is, do we need a 6-10 body to bang and rebound and play some D, or are we selling out for athleticism and offense? I look at VCU -- or to an extent Kent State -- and say bring in Nance and Goard.

I was just asking the question.  I would have no problem with bringing both in.  I believe that coaches at this level are more focused on current needs (a JC big), then a long term talent.  I actually think Nance will end up more like 6' 9 as an athletic power forward or a big small forward.  I think Nance would benefit from a freshmen redshirt year.  Just my opinion from seeing him six plus times over the last 3 years.

You may be right about Nance. I don't see Nance as a project, but I think he will mature a few years down the road. I guess it may come down to filling a short-term need of getting a more mature JC player who can contribute minutes right away v. someone who could be a dominant mid-major player down the road but might need a year to acclimate. I hope we choose the latter, but seeing as we aren't mentioned with the kid, it probably will be the former. On the other hand, I don't see many Valley or Horizon schools after the kid, so maybe there is something I don't see.
