D.J. is stellar. This team is one big man short of being FANTASTIC next year and the following year. Coop's a stud and we have a boatload of young talent. One very good center is the missing link to putting this team deep in the tournament. Who's on the radar?

Height is a stat?  Don't most of us tend to look at stats as an achieved, so somewhat controllable, number?  Is height that way?  What % of guys 6'9" or over do we lack and, if talented, tend to be able to make a difference in defense and/or rebounding? Of course, it's easier to blather on about stats and kill the messenger, squared, than it is to deliberate, analyze and respond with insight.  Or do you expect us to ahieve markedly better, to achieve what our talent at the 1, 2 and 3 appear to be without quality big persons to fill out the picture?

Actually, height and stats are a pretty good comparison.  They both seem to predict a certain result in the future, or in other words a higher probability of a certain result, but you'd be crazy to think it is the end all in the discussion.  One thing is for sure, both are relevant and worth discussing!

I agree to a certain extent.  Height is just one indicator.  In my 24 years of watching Bobcat basketball, if I was in a situation where I needed a rebound and had to pick a Bobcat to get it, I would want Gary Trent.  He was 6 feet 6 inches tall.  I would not pick Jason Terry who was 7 feet 2 inches tall.  Strength and explosiveness also come in to play.  It is by belief that there is no stat that in itself can tell a whole story.

True.  You just look good getting off the bus.  But, we do need some height with talent.

I believe Gary Trent was about 6'8" and 250# (at least that was his NBA ht and wt).

And, I don't think he got any bigger after leaving OHIO.

He was just a stud PF.

I always got a kick out of seeing Terry, all 7-feet, 2-inches of him, lining up on the third block from the baseline on opposing teams'  free throws with Trent and Boals, or Trent and SImmons, on the low blocks.

Stud indeed. I always catch myself saying to my 13 year old at games - "Gary Trent's thighs, calves (you name it) were twice (sometimes thrice as per Rockets Anyijong Last night) as big as that guy's".

Plus - his vertical leap was - 44 inches? UNSTOPPABLE

Just because he was listed at 6'8" doesn't mean that he actually was.

BUMP . . . You write the ad copy Monroe, find the placement, and I'll split the costs with you!   We really, really need a BIG MANZ.  With a athletic, talented, and smart BIG MANZ we could be a top 25 team next year.  The ad you are proposing -- though it was almost a year ago -- is still relevant and there should be some young man out there who would like to come to Athens and slay dragons!  (That's dragons generically, not The Dragon.  Breath easy JSF.)
