Rivals is reporting, and I have confirmed via Twitter, that 2013 Chicago  Simeon High School point guard Jaylon Tate is making an official visit to Ohio this weekend. Rivals shows Northwestern and Providence as having offered Tate. In June, CBS' Jeff Borzello reported offers from Missouri, Xavier, Providence, Illinois, DePaul, Butler and Missouri State. I'm not sure that's accurate as I've seen elsewhere that Illinois is interested but hasn't offered. Still, looks like Ohio is in good company.

Looking forward to this weekend. Ohio University here i come.!!

This kid is good.

Not only is Simeon a power, but we've had some solid PG's hail from Illinois...

Just watched some video of jaylon on YouTube. Looks like a taller and faster DJ. The way they Attack the basket is the exact same.

This would be a special get. I wonder how recruits feel about a big school like Illinois going after them only after another guy they liked more decided to go somewhere else.

Seems like OHIO has been on this guy for a long time and how much does a recruit appreciate this?

Would be nice to go in next year with an experienced Stevie Taylor running the show and Jaylon getting significant playing time at the point as well.

He's also a high school teammate of the top recruit in the country, Jabari Parker.

Saw him on campus earlier this morning with Fuss. I'd give him 6'1'' and a half to 6'2''.

Maybe it's availability of the young man, but I'd think we'd bring him in on a weekend of a home football game--to feel the excitement.  Also, the beauty of the campus.  The latest version of the 110 Gangam video has some 'long' shots which show visually how Peden fits into the town and campus--spectacular!

Come on Jaylon, you won't regret it.

Nothing against coach Groce, but how awesome would it be if he chose us over Illinois point blank.

Sounds like it was a good visit.  Great to hear that academics is playing a key role in his decision.  Ohio sports management program cannot be beat.

He re-tweeted my tweet to him pleading for him to come to Athens...This clearly means good things.  Never mind there are about 100 similar retweets from Illini fans.

I'm optimistic we have a chance, but Groce has the combination of loyalty to one of the guys who recruited him early and often and showed the most interest (when he was at Ohio)...and a program that can be a national contender (now that he is at Illinois).  Add to it being his home state...and that is a tough situation to beat.

Regardless of how much he enjoyed his visit, if the illinois offer comes we are out of luck.  Kendrick Nunn is tweeting about Jaylon joining him at Illinois.  He is visiting Illinois tomorrow.  If Nunn is tweeting that and he is visiting tomorrow, I smell offer and Tate of the board.  Let's start moving toward another PG target now please!

Is Jabari Parker considering Illinois at all?  Would be kind of cool if 3 high school teammates all went to the same college.

Man I'd love for this kid to choose OHIO. It appears with D.J. Wingfield now a commit, the back-court wouldn't miss a beat. It'd really let Christian and company focus hard on some big men to solidify the bright future.

Chas Wolfe just tweeted Tate to Groce.  Seeing that I retweeted before any Illini, we clearly have a superior fanbase. #bigtime

Bummer! I think we should move away from the PG position with this class, unless we can get a Tate like recruit.  We will have two JR PG's next year, so next recruiting cycle might be the time to bring in a freshman PG.  Need to add another 2-guard/wing and another big in my opinion.

No, you want to bring in a freshman next season. Like quarterback, the point guard  has a lot to learn and the more understudy time you can get him, the better.

I get what you are saying, but carrying 3 PG's for two years is a bit much.  If you look at the recruiting grid, that 2/Wing position opens up after this year and next.  Wingfield fills one spot, but I'd feel more comfortable adding another in that area.  Either way, 9 new faces in the next two classes will allow for us to target specific areas and maybe hang on to one until late signing period to get late bloomers/ four year transfers (ugh).

Tate gave Groce a verbal on Friday.

Time to move on.
