Noticed Boals started following Devon Baker of Tulane/UNC-Asheville. Entered the portal over the weekend, from Dayton originally. Numbers dipped at Tulane, but strong numbers at the latter. Amari Davis seems like a fair comp.

One interesting name I just saw come across the portal wire was Christian Guess, who was really good up at Shaker Heights. I wondered back then why Saul didn't extend much attention then. He's really well-traveled, with stops at Mizzou, Tallahassee CC, North Idaho, Samford, and most recently Prairie View. He had a great year at Samford in 2021, but averaged just two points at PVAMU. 6'7'' small forward who should have just one year left. Take a flyer?

I would say yes to this one. He's a guy who could step in and play for us experience-wise and be that Ali Ali type defender with length. He is definitely well-traveled and could burn us but why not? I keep seeing people on here bringing up 6-foot guards -- unless we are giving up on Jaylin Hunter, Miles Brown and Elmore James, I don't see where we need another smaller guard. I still believe Ajay Sheldon is going to be something special by the time he leaves OU as well. Let's go get a 6-6, 6-7 dude and play some "D."

This guy has 5 schools and looking for a 6th???? I'll take a hard pass! There is a reason he's not found a forever home, and I doubt that the reason is the other programs were the problem.

In fairness, part of the reason 6-foot guards are being posted (I have twice since Hunter add) has to do with the fact Boals is following them on social. Unless he’s DM’ing for autographs, it’s reasonable to speculate there’s interest, regardless if we as fans think the next add should be a 6’6/6’7 guy who can defend.

EJ4 is an exciting, but still unproven commodity and as much as I like Miles, his production to date is more of a role player than a starter. My guess is what interests Boals about Boykin and Baker for example, is their ability to score. Regardless of size.

I see your points -- I guess I am still thinking of guys like Miles and B-Rod who were the early building blocks of Boals' recruiting and they've stuck it out. I like their demeanor, their dedication and they have definitely had some struggles but always seemed like good teammates. I would just want to keep them around instead of losing them to the portal because Boals replaces them. And I don't want to become a program where every year Boals is making up for his recruiting mistakes with new guys -- I'd love to see us have 10 guys who stay with us. I know that's not realistic.

Sorry, but I haven't had an opportunity to get in a Civil War reference for awhile.  But, your mention of Prairie View A&M provides me with an opportunity that I can't resist.  Before the late rebellion a Texas slave holder, Bird Holland, who was also the father, brought three of his black progeny to Albany, Ohio, where they enrolled in the Albany Manual Labor University, which had a very rigorous academic curriculum.  The term "manual labor" meant that students earned part of their tuition by working in the afternoons.   This institution, founded in 1847 by Mr and Mrs. William Lewis, graduates of Oberlin, was open to all students regardless of color or gender.  It went bankrupt and closed during the Civil War.

So, how does PVAM fit into all of this?  Well, to make a long story short all three of the Holland boys distinguished themselves after graduating from AMLU.  The most famous was Milton, who earned the Medal of Honor at the Battle of New Market Heights (Chaffin's Farm) as he led a charge by the 5th United States Colored Infantry after all the officers had been killed or wounded.  Both of the other brothers, James and William served in the Civil War as well.  William after the war returned to Texas, and was elected to the Reconstruction legislature.  He was a cosponsor of the bill that created PVA&M.  He served in the House; the other co-sponsor was in the Senate.

Stock certificate for investors in the AMLU. Common way educational institutions were financed in the 19th Century.

Agree. This is true at all ages. Avoid the team hoppers. 1 or 2 is understandable but eventually you see the undeniable common thread.

I understand where you’re coming from and I appreciate B-Rod’s and Miles’ loyalty. I don’t necessarily look at Boals having interest in other guards as making up for recruiting mistakes specifically as relates to those two. No one saw B-Rod falling off a cliff (Boals did stick it out with him all season) and Miles just didn’t level up as a starter (I don’t blame BVP/Sears/Carter being ball stoppers for this).

I look at someone like Baker, a proven scorer at the D1 level as a safety net and lengthening the roster. If B-Rod bounces back he’s starting and Miles is still more of a 7/8ppg player, that’s solid production from an experienced player off the bench.

WAKE UP!!! .... Look at the top of the MAC. Toledo, Akron, Kent State all add guys to fill in the blanks every year. The key (and the Bobcats have the key) is also to do what Toledo, Akron and Kent do ... which is keep a core of four-year guys as the foundation of the program. Don't have to like it, but that's the new normal for successful mid-majors.

Got to looking at BG's recent games and I don't see Sam Towns showing up anywhere since November. Any idea's why?

Perhaps his nickname should be "Left Two" Towns.

In the portal, from Lima, famous dad if you follow Ohio HS basketball. Started at D2 Wisconsin Parkside and played next at Southern Utah. Looks to have one year left. Likely out of our price range.

His dad played at Ohio State for like 10 minutes, I believe. If a guy from Southern Utah is out of our price range then maybe we should rethink our priorities.

First, don't be an ass. Second, dad was Mr. Basketball twice in this state. Third, not sure how his time at O$U is relevant. Fourth, teams who finish 16-16 shouldn't be shitting on anyone else. Fifth, lack of NIL $$$ is real. Sixth, don't be an ass.

Dad played 57 games in two seasons and averaged 10ppg in that time. I’ll give you credit, when you are wrong, you go big.

We have all the 6’5’ guys we need. No need to waste time window shopping. We need a solid big. Don’t waste NIL on redundancy.
