At a minimum it looks like he knows how to recruit guards!

This isn't a knock on his classes at NDSU, but I hope that the guys we are signing here are getting offers from other programs that are pretty good. I'm not against going for an under the radar guy, but I liked that a lot of the guys Christian signed and recruited had offers from other top level mid-majors and even some high majors... Now, Saul mentioned believing he can "sell" Ohio University and Athens... That tells me he thinks he can go head to head with other quality programs to get kids coming here. (I think we all agree that ANYONE should be able to sell OHIO..... It literally is college.)

Along the topic of this thread, it wouldn't shock me if we end up recruiting some guys Toledo was looking at. A lot of times, it is the assistants really developing relationships and scouting so it is good to know who a guy like Assistant Kemp (who came from Toledo) is/was looking at.
That isn't to say we will be pulling decommits from them, but more likely going after uncommited guys the were looking at.

You think that is a function of his preferences or is it mostly because at the Mid majors skilled big are pretty much picked over and ND might be a difficult place to attract them.

He definitely prefers to bring in guys who fly under the radar with a chip on their shoulders and spend 4 or 5 years developing them into good mid major players.  Like Tyler Braun, the 6-7 guard/forward who is now on Nick Kellogg's team at Portsmouth.  I'm sure Saul would like to hit a recruiting niche a little higher than before, but I think it's clear how he operates.  He's not going to take a lot of chances on guys who are big time risks.

It truly will be interesting to see who Ohio goes up against in recruiting once Saul really gets his people in place.  I think this late period this Spring will not tell the full story.  Would be nice to go up against the best mid majors and some high majors, but I trust this guy to do the right thing to succeed long term at Ohio no matter who we recruit against.  He has that kind of track record at NDSU.  The Summit League isn't exactly a dog meat league...he's been competing effectively in that league for a long time now.
