Making an official visit this weekend per Alex Kline, RecruitScoop.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinal all area third team...

Jordan Perez, 6-4, sr., G, Greendale: What elevated Perez's game this year was his three-point shooting as he improved beyond the arc to 42.4%. "He's pulling up for shots deep," Lewiston said. "He's causing problems for people. He's so athletic. He can jump. He can do a lot of things." Perez averaged 22.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for the Division 2 state qualifier.

Yes please. A big athletic guard is exactly what we need.

Here's his AAU profile: www.wissports.net/roster_players/1310949

Relatively under-the-radar, but Saul has had success with that type of player in the past. From his highlight video he looks like a complete scorer. Not an explosive athlete, but knows how to find the bucket.

Right now it looks like his only D-1 offer is Texas-Pan American. If he comes to visit Athens this weekend, I would be surprised if he leaves without committing.

My guess is that if you sign a guy to Ohio University whose only other offer at this juncture in the recruiting process is Pan-American you are either:

a.  A Genius
b.  Not real smart
c.  Desperate

This is an example of where you have to trust a staff's ability to evaluate talent.  There have been star players in the MAC who didn't have many offers.  Taylor Braun of NDSU only had Div. II offers.  He was Summit MVP this past year and went to Portsmouth.

In Saul I trust.

75% chance this guy ends up a Bobcat.  Agree with McKinney, in Saul we trust.

Don't post much....but thought I would post after watching the video. I have also been on "recruit watch" and am jonesing for some positive recruit news. I realize this is ridiculous after a three-minute video to evaluate a player. But, after watching lots of high school hoops, I thought I would add my thoughts.

No idea why he doesn't have more offers....could be a late "grower"/"bloomer", 6'1" who is now 6'4", grades, doesn't have the perimeter quickness, didn't play a lot of AAU, truly "slipped under the radar", etc. We will have to wait on see on Perez and if he commits.

One thing I will say is the new coach seems to me to thrive on taking "borderline" kids and developing them and spending the four years helping them maximize their talent. If that is the case, we will have to be patient and expect some REALLY good things in 3/4 years. I believe from his comments and watching NDSU..this is what we can expect.

Perez might be a person who needs a few years to develop...although we may need a "maker" next year between him (if he commits) and Crute? My two cents:

+'s: Nice body control in air and in traffic, can use both hands going to basket, plays under control, nice shooting release (high)...gets up in the air to release, seems to have nice emotional balance on court (not too high/too low), good frame with what looks like room to add some muscle and maybe some quickness?, handles well with both hands

-'s: Doesn't seem like exceptionally explosive athlete, not sure how quick on first step, doesn't get "way off" of ground

TBD (unknown): defensive...period (never is a part of these videos is it); intangibles, etc.

I am cautiously optimistic and believe he could develop into a "Nick-like" player who sill be a perimeter-oriented player who will add strength, quickness, and confidence and become more of a "scorer" by his junior/senior year.

nice looking recruit. Smooth stillon the way to growing into his body and gaining strength. Def a late bloomer. I would bet if I  sttood next to him he is going to be way closer to 6'2 than 6'4. He still has that look like he is going to get an inch. Nice find.

Does it kind of feel like Jordan's game is similar to Laster?  With Laster & Crute, Perez would make 3 off-guards in the same class.

An unselfish player who is willing to make the extra pass, set screens and get on the floor for a loose ball. Difficult to contain off the dribble because of his quickness, strength and skill.

Sounds like someone I would want on the roster.

With the 2 and 3 spots pretty much interchangeable I don't think 3 guys is too many. I mean we did just graduate 4 guys at that position.

Also assumes none of them grow 2 inches.  If one does, we suddenly have a 6-6 small forward that is highly mobile.

I have watched this highlight tape twice and the name that keeps jumping out in my head is Frankie Dobbs. I do not know if I could pinpoint something specific, but he just feels very similar.

With Ryan Taylor signing today there are only two scholarships remaining and SP has been quoted as saying he's ok with leaving two open for 2015. In Arkley's blog he mentions that Perez was not offered after his visit to Athens.

My guess is we are done until next year.

My guess is we are done with guards and wings (so including Perez) but could still be kicking the tires on some big men, but are content to sit still and not have to settle.
