Doubt that Gary Trent would ever seriously consider Ohio but it might be something to look into. Trent is the top freshman in Minnesota and rated #51 nationally according to 247sports.com. He already has an offer from Minnesota and is gaining interest nationally including Ohio State. He has to have a place in his heart for the Bobcats.

Because I don't view my Bobcats as my minor league team like some...I don't see why GT Jr would not seriously consider Ohio. Hopefully the coaching staff is in contact with him and Dad tells him all about how Ohio was there for him when no one else was, and what that did for his career and life in general.

First of all, he does not "have to have a place in his heart" for Ohio. My dad went to Marietta College, and I did not have any interest in going there.

By all means, offer him. There's nothing wrong with buying a lottery ticket.

Seems like there's a lot of recruits who don't want to follow in dad's footsteps. It would be a lot of pressure to see your dad's jersey hanging in the rafters, it's a lot to live up to.

This is purely a guess, but I think the only way Ohio has a chance to get Trent Jr. is to bring Dad in as an assistant coach. Aint' gonna happen.

Then again, he might beat Miami at home just once or win an NCAA game. He could one-up Shaq Dad twice in a single season. ;)

In all seriousness, it's stupid not to go after this kid hard and sell our program in today's dollars. If Saul can get in their living room we have a chance. There's a ton of mid-majors who wish they had a shot in hell at this kid. We actually do. Go for it.

Because it's against NCAA rules or something else? ;)

can't find it now but I remember reading an interview with Trent Jr and he was very aware of his dad's time at Ohio and mentioned how his dad is close with several guys from that team, including Jeff Boals. And here's a video released just the other day titled "Gary Trent Jr shows out for Ohio State Asst. Boals". You can see Bowls and Gary Sr chatting in the background.

Jr already has offers from Minnesota and Texas Tech and is getting looks from several B1G teams. I'll be disappointed if we don't make a hard run on this kid.

Yep. Boals and Trent are close. And Boals is recruiting Jr. for Ohio State, NOT OHIO.

2017 is a long way away....while selling him NOW on Ohio might be a stretch, if we put together a few post-season runs and watch as Saul's players filter in, you never know.

I think we're going to have a very talented roster by the time GTjr is ready to make a decision but getting a top 50 player away from one of the B1G schools is a pretty tough ask.

Just based on the father / son connection you have to put in some work, regardless of how good your odds may be. If nothing else, it is a courtesy to GT.

Any son of a former Bobcat should be approached and recruited "hard" as others have said. It is a tough task, but one I'm sure Saul & Co. will attempt.

If we put together that type of success, Saul may be coaching elsewhere by then.

Or he may have been honest with his plans to stay at Ohio long-term.

What a great story and video. I am so impressed with how Gary Trent has conducted himself as a pro and now. He's coaching a high school with his son? Are you kidding me? What a fantastic person. I still remember do a story for The Post where I was talking to the manager named Trent Terry and Jason Terry and Gary Trent were on the team. I threw Trent an alley-oop after he said "Lob it." Still one of the thrills of my college career.

Gary Trent actually posted this to the Facebook group "You know you went to OU if" last week.
