The groupings of Michigan State and Wisconsin players was surprising... In general, those two teams don't have to go far to find the talent they need to run their systems. No doubt, they also do a nice job of developing the players they get to fit into what they are doing.

Conversely, according to the map Duke has only one player from North Carolina. Interesting.

HAHA
I rmember sitting at an AAU tourney and talking to a SUmmer ball coach about all the coaches across the gym and remarking that I did not see Coach K anywhere the entire time I had been going to summer program tourneys.
He laughed and said the same thing a D2/3 scout had told me many years ago.
"Most coaches beat the bushes for talent attending summer tourneys, visiting HS practices and games and listening to the bushes for someone they may have missed....guys like Coach K at Duke and those at UNC and Kansas sit down in their living room and watch ALl Star and McDonalds games and say "I want him", make a call and that's how they recruit.
I thought it was funny in 2006 but have really found it to be pretty true over the years as I have continued to watch those stands. I did see Self at a few event and have seen Coach K at the Vegas Showcases but by and large they were only at games where they were watching kids who had committed and not looking at potentials...

I sat on the bleachers at an Adidas event in Cincinnati, looked beside me and saw Boeheim a short distance away.
I also saw Ol' Roy there that day.
But I do think they try to avoid having to beat the bushes.

or maybe they just read the ESPN or Rivals top 100 and say how many of these can we fit? Duke has 8 Burger Boys this year.

I think the challenge for K nowadays is keeping a balanced roster. He may have 8 McD AA right now but those are the only 8 Scholly he has. And he may well lose 4 of those to the draft.
He has two 5 stars coming in for next year and a transfer big man from Rice that looks to be a 4 year player.
Interesting situation to be in to say the least. You have the brand and reputation to get all the 5 stars you want but they don't stay long. So do you resist that urge and take lesser talent to balance your roster consistently? If so, which 5 stars do you take and which do you pass on?

I'm trying to figure out who on Kentucky's team is from Ohio? Looked through the roster and no one shows Ohio as home.

I think this map is based on hometown, not high school. I believe Ulis is originally from Lima.

I didn't know that. Interesting. He's gonna be a heck of a player with more PT.

I had to check that out too. The Kentucky roster does list him as being from Lima. He is one of six players from Ohio.
