Maybe, JSF, but isn't he taking it a bit too far? Comparing Walmart with o$u?

Just watched his mixtape. I had this vision of him and Kaminsky going into cr'Akron's "arena" and totally demoralizing the zippies.

I think we are actually two years away. Next year will be fun to see everyone come together, but I think they need two years off saulball and strength training before we will be where we all want to be. It's going to be fun to watch.

I love how some people on here are hating on him being in a smaller division and a smaller school. It doesn't matter who he's playing when you look at his pure shot. It doesn't matter when his pump fakes are already better than anyone on our current roster's. And it doesn't matter that he can spend all of next year spotting up while Kaminski, Tony and Simmons stretch the floor for he and Block. I agree about a year away. I say 20 wins next year. The year after, NCAA Tournament because we will have EVERYONE but Treg back!

I am not hating on him and I was sure to include that he played for Stevens Point as a frosh before transferring BUT...OJmayo choosing to play at NCH vs moving into Princeton or a large school was farcical to the point where the other schools in the conference voted to make them ineligible. James is not seeing the comp he would at a larger school. In INdiana if you play in 4a there is a difference in the comp, how the game is called ,the motivation and the experience you gain. Just a fact you can argue til you are blue in the face but every one here knows it. I have no problem looking at games I have seen in Chicago vs downstate IL, Wisco watching RIce Lake as opposed to Milwaukee or madison area schools. There is a difference and a good reason guys that play 4a ball in IN or Div1 in OHio like Pick, Princeton or Gahanna walk into programs ready to play.

I said when Deshawn Thomas signed with tO$U it would tke him 2 -3 years to become a force as he had always played in a small school division school. I got lambasted and flamed on our local board but he was not the one and done everyone thought he was going to be. Still think not having that comp each game has kept him from ultimately reaching his potential. But I have only been watching him since 6th grade so what do I know?

I love James shot and his skillset and I am glad you pointed that out as it is pure and I think his bro has done a good job with getting him built for the next level. I do think the college game will be faster and will not come to him as readily as it did DJ who came from a small school that still played big time comp or AB who put up 26 in a first half against Oden and COnley who were in the same league. If you want to be the best you got to play the best and guys who are transferring to make that happen in a big school setting really get my respect.

He really looks like he'll be able get his shot off easily here. The highlight reel showed he can create his own shot. Would have liked to have seen him make a pass on some of those tougher shots that he hit though. It's a highlight reel so it doesn't show his whole game but this year's team has made me hypersensitive to that kind of thing.

hahah ^^^^^^^^^ look up top, talked earlier about his Bro. His brother has been coaching and training him in the off season, James talked about how Jakob had really been a key in using the jump stops, shooting drills and refining his game.

I know there's a lot difference in quality of play, but 30.7 points a game is pretty impressive. I'm guessing that the opposition played their best player or players on him every night. He should be able to learn to score some at our level of opposition.

I think you are correct about the level of comp. In Indiana there is a huge difference from 1a to 4a. Playing against 1 and 2a comp then moving to a 4a school where you see Indy Pike and North Central or Anderson/Kokomo is huge.

In James case he was at SP before heading to Pacelli if I understand correctly. As a frosh he played vs "big school" comp then transferred so he had played well at that level and moved down.

I have watched small school guys from Covington OH (Tom Dunn) http://pressprosmagazine.com/the-best-there-ever-was/ to Chicago to Indiana and always give them a bit more time and room to grow as the jump to D1 ball is hard for any kid...moreso to a kid who is jumping from small school ball. Most kids from big schools see a smattering of D1 bound kids in their career and are coached by guys who run the program like a D1 program so they walk in with good backgrounds and having seen a lot already.

I think james will be fine but do not look for him to just walk in and be ready. Having his brother working him out and coaching at the next level is a great start. He should be a good player over the course of 4 years. looking at his brother who is listed at 6'6 the 6'4 is probably close https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/567034578473586691/4...

I agree with your summary, Borna. There's a pretty big drop off in Ohio from Division 1 to Division 2 high schools and even more further down. I agree that kids can catch up -- it just takes a little time. From my perspective, it's mostly because the bigger school kids typically have more good repetitions against better competition - practice and games -- at an earlier age. Off season competition and skills development factor in, too, but almost everyone being recruited at the D-1 college level is participating in that unless they're a spring sport kid.
